5th gear problem

When I shift into 5th gear the stick vibrates really hard and it sounds like it grinding i guess. It doesnt do it all the time. Its like I am trying to shift into it without fulling pushing down the clutch, but I am. Its an 04 STi. Any ideas? Its making me pretty pissed...

Just a guess but it sounds like worn synchros to me

Gah is that something that is easy/inexpensive to replace? I hope it is...

If I'm right, the good news is parts are cheap but the bad news is labor will be expensive.

It's a common problem with 04/05 STI trannys

06+ got upgraded syncros.

Try changing your tranny fluid, and use either the Subaru Extra-S fluid (or whatever its called) or Motul Gear 300. Mine grinds occasionally but by keeping the fluid fresh I've been keeping it alive...

The thing is I just changed the oil. I didnt use Motul Gear 300 or the Subaru stuff but I used a gear oil that was the type called for in the service manual.
