Helps you with getting the car threw the gears faster and smoother. I have upgraded to short shifter and all upgraded bushings and now its a little to tight for me. I went heavier and it will be alot easier.

I recently upgraded my 04 shift knob with an 07 knob...

04 - 69 grams
07 - 180 grams or so? In that area

I even feel a good difference between the old style and new style knob.

Cheap too...

BTW I see why your car would be clean, but whys your sti slow?

How does a heavier shift knob help shifting?? I must've been sleeping or something but this doesn't make any sense to me?? The shift knob doesn't put any force on the shifter and the inertia of a heavier mass isn't that high to help, is it?? Dang, this one don't make any sense to me.

It (apparently) is if you consider that the mass is at the end of a lever.

I'm not a fan of heavy shift knobs myself; they look like a good way to wear out synchros prematurely, and bad way to learn how to shift a car correctly.

It is the inertia on the top of the lever... It makes for a more precise shift, and better feel.

I have my Cobb double-adjustable SS set for very short shifts and very tall knob. I also added a shift extender. This combo makes for very low shift effort, probably as much as having more weight on the end.

It makes a pretty big difference actually. Try someones out that has one and just see how it basically slides riight into the gear with little effort. It makes it easier for me at the track as far as not missing shifts. That part could be just me though.

It's the GarageSpec shift extender. Here is a post of my setup with some pics.

I've been driving with this for about 2 years now and really like it.
