Default Throwout Bearing Clunking when car is warmed up?

I just had a new clutch and flywheel installed (ACT HD Disc and Streelite) and know sometime when the car is completely warmed up is sounds like something is rattling around in the clutch area. I can eliminate the noise by modulating the clutch which is leading me to think it may be the throwout bearing. Can this be possible after only like 200 miles of use on the clutch? I emailed Rich at Precision Tuning who did the install and am waiting for a reply. I realize there is some break in period for the clutch and flywheel contact surfaces to mate but I just wanna be on the safe side before I start to try to ignore any new noises. I have alot of shudder with slow engagement in First from a stop and reverse from a stop.

If anyone else has experienced this with the ACT combonation please let me know.

I am using the ACT street disc with HD pressure plate and a lightened flywheel. I made sure I broke it in properly. Clutch is working properly but I am experiencing the same vibrating/grinding sound. It happens mainly when I let go of the gas after accelerating. Im pretty sure its normal sounds for that clutch though.

To start, generally, ACT clutches have a history of being overly aggressive on anything on the mainshaft, especially with the unsprung models. I have actually steered completely away from them for this reason. After two blown trannies, I will never go back. However, there are lots of people out there that swear by them. You will definitely have to get used to some odd noises and chatter with the ACT unit. Companies like Daikin / Exedy are much quieter and seem to be a little more like OEM quality. It's all personal preference.

Moving along, your problem sounds more like the input shaft bearing. It's the first large bearing on the mainshaft. I could tell you the part number if this was a Honda, but it it's not. Common problem with B-Series transmissions.

Turn on your car, and turn off any ambient noises like the radio, ect... Listen to the drone noise ..... now quickly press in the clutch and listen .... does it get quieter? Release the clutch quickly .... do you hear the rattling again? If you hear the rattling come and go by modulating the clutch, it's the ISB, no question. I've run into this on my Type R, and 350Z. The ISB will also "whine" upon sharp deceleration as well. Your problem doesn't sound like a TOB.

Usually when you replace your clutch and flywheel, it's good practice to replace some of the major bearings on the mainshaft, and do a few of the seals. It costs you a lot less in the long run. Pulling a tranny is expensive and time consuming.

Best of luck.

It's quieted down alot now that it has started to wear in and the clutch disc has started to bed itself to the flywheel. Car is driving a whole hell of a lot better now that it's starting to break in. I'll just keep a close watch on it and if it prolongs or gets worse I'll pursue it further. Thanks for the response.
