Default stock clutch with a gt30r?

im about to get a new shortblock installed in my 07 sti and it will wind up with a gt3076r .82 on race gas. i dont plan on launching it much, but it will play at the dragstrip a couple times a year. the stock clutch has 8,000 miles on it and is in great shape. i really want the petal as light as possible so if the stock clutch will hold, i would prefer to keep it. if it wont ill plan on a act h/d street clutch. what do you guys think, new clutch while the labor is free or will the stocker hold?

In my opinion, do it while the shortblock is being replaced.

It really depends on how you drive. If you drive your car in the meat of the torque curve with that turbo, it might last another 8,000 miles. Can the stock clutch last with this turbo, yes the stock clutch can last with any size of turbo. Does this mean I drive like a poocee, yes. If the labor is free and you are having a new short block installed then I would say to do it. Whom ever is doing that work is going to have to put a new clutch assembly on the new short block anyways, what is the point in using something that is not rated by its specs to be able to hold the power you are going to make. It would suck to have all of this work done and then have to replace the clutch sooner than expected. The ACT kit does not have an extremely heavy pressure plate. I think its a 2600 lb pressure plate and the disk is good to 475 crank torques. Like any new clutch it will feel heavy initially compared to stock, but you will get used to it as the disk is seated to the pressure plate and flywheel during the break-in period.

youll should be fine, the stocker will handle 400 without much of a problem unless you launch hard and glaze it. i am with the guy above though, and just upgrade while the block is out, as its a pain to due it later as youll basically be doing the same thing all over to replace the clutch

if you can get a new clutch installed while you're having a new block installed; DO IT.

if money and downtime is not a problem, you can skip it now, and replace the stock clutch when it's toast which might actually happen when you strap it to the dyno for the first time
