Default shifting problem

Hi all,
I have an 05 sti, cobb stage 2, aps long intake, aps 2.5 turbo back exhaust. I just developed a new problem tonight. I do not do hard take offs or really hard shifting. I drove about 150 miles friday and and came back to drive the sti sunday night. I could not engage any gear while running, turn car off can smoothly shift through all gears. If I start car up in 1st gear, and can take off no problem (clutch wise).gears sound normal, not really noisy and very slight intermittent grinds. shifting still seems rough up shifts, down shifts it I have to be stopped to get back in gear. car has 30k . original fluid. on trans. I think I still have factory warranty but not sure if they will honor it with mods. I am going to check fluid level tomorrow and change it. The only time I am really hard on it is once the gears are engaged. thanks

nevermind figured it out.

After pulling the pressure plate and disc, 2 metal spring pieces fell onto the ground. It's like I figured the clutch dampner spring broke. plenty of disc left, but the spring ruined it all. How many people have had this happen? this is my second one, first on the STI.

the broken spring parts are on the right upper disc portion.

It was the tops to one of the inner springs inside the bigger ones.
Oh, well here comes a performance clutch and lighter flywheel.

just sucks only 30k and replacing a clutch and its not even slipping!

take it to the dealer for a replacement clutch. make sure you unmarry ap from your ecu before you drop it off. bring the scavenged parts with you. your car is still entitled to its drivetrain warranty protection unless they find some evidence of abuse when they inspect the clutch.

don't take no for an answer. if they do, go back with a copy of the federal law (it's posted somewhere). either way, they will likely make you agree to pay for the labor if they find abuse. if you are sure they won't, take the deal.

well it's kind of tricky... I used to work for an affiliated dealer where i'd take it, and they probably know the mods. I still work in a dealer and know how they can be about clutch and brake issues (wear items). I figure at this point, since I have the Tranny out, and would have to put it all back together, and tow it 100 miles(don't trust subaru dealer in town)to dealership near where i worked. no vehicle expect a loaner (from work), I might as well just upgrade to a little better than stock clutch, and perhaps a lightened flywheel.

I Also had this happen in my 97 gmc sonoma. I was driving home from work and got on the interstate and suddenly couldn't shift into any gear. same thing broken dampner spring.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Maybe we are seeing a pattern? lol...

It is quite odd that this would happen twice to the same person though. Good luck getting it covered...maybe take it to a dealership that doesnt know you?

Yeah, i thought about the pattern, both clutch failures around 30k, the truck i drove till 110k, after i put the clutch in no problems. you all can bet if I start getting the grinds, or drive train problems, i'll be taking it in!
