Default Clutch slipping in 5th and 6th gear

2005 sti, when shifting to 5th or 6th gear clutch will slip 1-2 grand only if RPMs go above 4 grand. There is no slipping of the clutch in all other gears. There is only 28,000 miles on the car I dont think a new clutch is needed already. Any suggestions?

Check the freeplay at the clutch pedal and at the throwout lever (underneath the intercooler on the driver's side).

Typically if your clutch is slipping it will happen in the higher gears first...so your situation certanly is indicitave of a worn clutch.

One way to tell is to put your car into 5th or 6th gear at a stand still and see if you can get your car to stall. If you dont stall it your clutch is blown.
