Default 06 sti clutch options???

well let me start off by sayingi own a 06 obp wingless sti mods are FMIC, turboxs catless turbo back exhaust, cobb accessport, e-protune.....

my question is when the time comes (will be soon i have 43k miles) to replace the clutch i want to make the right choice.....the most i plan to do mod wise in addition to what i have is maybe a 18/20g turbo swap at the most.....so i want to know what clutches you all think are good with daily driving, occasional tracking(autox,drag)....
i have been told....
stock sti clutch is good
centerforce DF is good
and act street is good
please give me your imput so i can make the proper decision.....thank you STi community!!!!!

for your power plan you do not need an aftermarket clutch and definately not before you toast the one you have.

I have not been able to find the clamping capacity of the pressure plate, nor the capabilities of the stock disk. However it is an Exedy clutch, and my guess is that the stock STi clutch is very close to the Exedy Stage 1 organic disk. The stage 1 Exedy clutch is an organic disk that can hold 410 lbs/ft and has a clamping force from the pressure plate of 2310 pounds. All of that torque is measured at the flywheel. If you take into consideration drivetrain power loss then you are looking at a range of 300-340 lbs/ft at the wheels depending on dyno and tuner. That is not enough for a properly tuned stage 2 STi and certainly not enough for an 18g/20g turbo which make substantially more than that. The stock clutch is good for a stock car. If someone tells you they have XX huge turbo and they have no problems does not really test the limits of their car. WOT for one gear once a month on the highway will not hurt the stock clutch. Since you plan on modding your car, I would advise you to at the very least get the ACT HD that can hold 475 lbs/ft at the flywheel or the RPS Street Max that holds 500 lbs/ft (this is the one that I have been driving on for the last 50k miles)....or something comparable. Both are organic disk and will give you a much more close to stock feel than you might expect. The best reason to upgrade your clutch is so that you don't have to do it again, unless you like doing things like this twice, or more.

with all due respect, there is absolutely no reason why anyone with a properly tuned stage 2 needs to upgrade the stock clutch, unless they are drag racing it. even with an 18 or 20g the best advice for most people is to toast it first and then upgrade.

Thats right. I approached it as he was window shopping. You know that replacing worn or broken parts with a more substantial piece is just what happens when you make more power. Sure that original part will last a little bit, but when it wears or breaks you have to replace it. This is especially true with the clutch being as it is designed to be the weakest point of every awd drivetrain.

i missed that 43k part in the op completely. it is definately time to move up. it does give us some idea of how evil06 drives in that it managed to last that long. an act or rps street clutch will do the trick at that power level.

All day long, with plenty of grip to spare.
