Default 04 STI..FPGreen/Meth...Which Clutch for DD?

My cousin with an 04 STI, FPGreen w/meth is looking to upgrade his clutch prior to our Tune in February...

He originally went with the Gruppe-S combo (Gruppe-S Lightened flywheel/ACT HD Clutch) but said that Gruppe-S said the shipment was delayed to the point where he would not be able to receive it, have it installed/broken in, before our tune...

For those of you running the FPGreen/meth combo...what clutch are you using? Where can we purchase the ACT HD clutch right now?

I'm running the ACT Streetlite flywheel/Exedy Stg1 Organic clutch on my 04 sti...recently upgraded to the fp18g..I'm sure mine will be fine with the clutch I have but I don't think this would be enough for the hp/tq my cousin and his fpgreen are looking at...

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Brent

There are lots of vendors on here that can get you a clutch fast. Try Oakos just ordered from them very fast shipping and reasonable prices. I would get an Exedy stage 2 clutch with a resurfaced flywheel that should handle the torque of the FpGreen/Meth Sti on the dyno.

If he's looking for bullet-proof, and doesn't want to roll for a TP, the RPS Max is tough to beat - solid sprung plate, good take-up, no chatter.

Btw, that looks like a nice steelhead in your avatar - about 20-22lbs?

exedy doesn't make a single plate anymore. they do make a stage 1 and a stage 2 setup.

for an fp green daily setup, i'd try out an act 6 puck sprung. a stage 1 can fail on act or exedy.

It's an Upper Kenai River Rainbow Trout in Alaska...my brother an I had a great day boating probably 30+ Ranbows that day with about 6 in the 24-28" range...all catch and release...artificial, de-barbed hooks...

The RPS clutches seem to get great reviews...I'll probably go that route next time around. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for all the input...

My cousin talked to his tuner and ended up going with the Exedy Stg1 Organic...

When he mentioned the ACT 3 puck...the answer came back...it's great for gripping, but for the stop and go daily driving in a a highly congested metropolitan area..it can be very annoying...

I think I'll go and do more research on the RPS clutches...

i have the ACT HD street and Streetlite Flywheel and its a great DD. The trip home after the install sucked i stalled out like 7 times but after the break in period u wont even remember there was a difference between the new one and the stock and the small vibration goes away.

Well, I will tell you which clutch not to use for DD car; the Exedy Hyper Twin!

I'm sure it's a great clutch and all, say, if I decide to become a drag racer, but there is no other mod on my car (and I've got quite a few!) that has done more to make driving it a complete and total pain in the ass!
It sucked from the get-go, but I was told I'd get used to it. And I guess I did -I hardly ever stall it anymore, but where my car used to be a pleasure on the daily commute, now it has become severly compromised.

That said, I don't know what the best answer is. More research needed.
Good luck,
Russ R
