Default Exedy Clutch Question

Its time for me to change the clutch and Im having a hard time deciding on which clutch to get. I basically have it narrowed down to the exedy stage 1 organic and the ACT HD stage 1 clutch. Now I would obviously like to spend less on the exedy but I have heard from some people that it wears out prematurely. None of those people actually had the clutch, they just heard. Look at my sig for my mods and HP/tourque. I never go to the track so it doesnt have to take a ton of abuse.

- Has anyone personally had the exedy stage 1 organic wear out on them too quickly?

Any insight would be appreciated.

I have one sitting in my room along with a Gruppe-S flywheel. I have yet to put it on but from what I've read I can't find anyone with first hand experience of it wearing out prematurely. I know that the ACT is a heavier duty clutch and can hold more power than the Exedy.

I have pretty much the same power you have, Stage 2, and I'm not really worried about it. My car is a DD and only sees the drag strip once or twice a year.

I was thinking about an exedy for my car w a turbo kit. It holds up pretty well from what I heard. I have buddies with evos that have that, and it lasts.

I have the Exedy stage 1 clutch on my '04. It was installed at XX. I'm making power similar to your car. I don't put a lot of street miles on my car anymore, but I have put about 100 autox runs on the car since install. The clutch continues to feel just fine.
Be aware that the clutch will need a break in period. My clutch engagement was very "grabby" and had some shudder for the first 1500 miles. Also the engagement is not progressive like the stocker, it reacts more like a light switch. It's either on or off.

Hmmmm.... Thats good to know. So even after the break in period it still is either "on or off"?

I highly recommend getting an ACT. I had the stage 2 clutch and flywheel before and I loved it. It felt a tad bit harder on the pedal, engaged all the same, didnt chatter, need a break in, or anything like that. It just worked and lasted to this day.

No experiance with Exedy.

I gotta question!!!!
I'm looking for a clutch and flywheel but I'm a little confused.
If I plan on going stage 2 for power mods in the future then what clutch should I get stage 1 or 2?
As far as for power, I'm still stock. I want to upgrade my clutch and flywheel.
So what should I do?
From what I understand getting a lighter flywheel will make the CEL go on.
So should I just get a new clutch? If so which type and from who?

Yup. Still is either "on or off". You'll learn to adjust to that characteristic in a short amount of time. 95% of the clutch shudder is gone though.

sounds kinda annoying. Does it shudder in traffic when you are inching?

I have an Exedy 4 puck along with an ACT Streetlite flywheel in my room and have heard that it isn't a good dd clutch. Oh well, we'll find out.

I really don't think there's any reason to doubt Exedy's quality. They are ubiquitous in the market.

A quicker clutch is not necessarily going to wear faster by design, but it may very well wear faster if you're constantly trying to smooth it out in stop-and-go traffic.

I don't have any experience with Exedy's basic organic clutch, so can't comment about that. I've been using a Hyper Twin for about a year, and it works fine.

Which Exedy clutch do you have? The Exedy stage 1?
