Look, you gotta do what you gotta do, but I frankly don't think that any of the sprung, single plate "stage 1" clutches are that much more robust. If you really want bombproof, go for the ACT Street or RPS Max - but both are serious overkill for your application. They're each rated for 500+ ft.lbs.
I bought the car with 45,000 on it and it was stage 2 shortly after. I got protuned at about 75,000. The clutch held fine until the protune. I dont think it has anything to do with how I drive since my other car has the original clutch in it with 215,000 miles on it. This leads me to believe that the stock STi clutch isnt up for the task of 331 tq.

As for overkill, I would rather have overkill and not have to replace the clutch prematurely. Im just trying to find out if anyone has had first hand experience with an exedy stage 1 or ACT HD.

All I have to say is that i stepped in a wrx with an ACT HD street, and I can tell you that my left leg would be 2x larger than my right if I had that clutch.

Yes, it was that hard to push in.

Thus, I have an Exedy Twin Plate per flycaster's suggestion. And I love this thing! (BTW, my wife can drive my twin plate in L.A traffic. She actually likes it!) she wants one for her honda
