I just installed Exedy Stage 2 ceramatalic (sp?). Its a little grabby but as it warms up it grabs smoother. Holds like a pit bull with lock jaw. I have an 06 stage 2. Its a little tricky to drive but doesnt slip like the stock clutch. Im happy with this clutch.

I installed the Exedy Stg1 Clutch / ACT Streetlite flywheel at about 45K on my 04 STI...my stock clutch starting slipping right before I got my Protune from PDXTuning...306hp/342ftlbs torque...I had my clutch/flywheel changed out about a month prior to the tune.

I've been pretty pleased with it...it grips well but I get a bit of chatter due to the lighter flywheel and cobb lightened pulley I'm running...it revs very quickly though...which makes up for it.

The pedal pressure is slightly more than the stock STI clutch.

I am now at 70K with no slipping thus far...I recently upgraded to Stg4 (fp18g/injectors/fp/inletpipe/TGV's) and will get another Protune February 15th. I'm looking at ~340-350hp and similar torque numbers...

If I plan on going stage 2 for power mods in the future then what clutch should I get stage 1 or 2?
As far as for power, I'm still stock. I want to upgrade my clutch and flywheel.
So what should I do?
From what I understand getting a lighter flywheel will make the CEL go on.
So should I just get a new clutch? If so which type and from who?
stage one or two wouldn't require a new clutch, but if you want to upgrade a simple exedy or act stage one clutch is all you need.
the flywheel does not trigger a CEL, if you want to upgrade that go with the act street lite.

A quicker clutch is not necessarily going to wear faster by design, but it may very well wear faster if you're constantly trying to smooth it out in stop-and-go traffic.

I don't have any experience with Exedy's basic organic clutch, so can't comment about that. I've been using a Hyper Twin for about a year, and it works fine.
"Works fine"... for what?
There is no other mod I've done to my car (and I've done even more than youl!) that has compromised it for daily driving more than that friggin' clutch!!
Oh sure, I don't stall it 5 times a day like I did when it was new, but now I dread driving my car downtown. (Admittedly it works great on track and AutoX).
Oh well -at least I know a dogbox is completely out of consideration (at least for me!)

Uh... works fine for pretty much everything I've done with it, except possibly in terms of easing my mind about my wife driving the car.

What's "downtown"? Is that one of those places where they have two traffic lights?

PM me about the fenders, and tell me exactly what you want. I'll do my best... not super good with the camera, and I also don't have very good hardware to work with. I know a little more about this than I did at the outset. Funny how that works.

Not if it's adjusted correctly and as long as you hop on it every now and then to clean the plates off. The take up is a little different, but it engages every bit as smoothly as my old stock clutch did. I drove mine in a lot of stop 'n go traffic up in Portland last year - no problemo.

It started to slip on the dyno a year and a half ago during my protune. I slowly started to feel it slip in 5th and 6th on the highway, and recently in 4th. I figured its time to start looking for a clutch. 95,000 miles on the stocker, so Im not overly surprised by the slipping.

Sheesh - just go for another stocker, unless you launch the car all the time. It's a great clutch.

My tuner (chris at XXtuning) told me the stocker wont hold up to the bump in TQ.

330# of torque? The stock clutch will hold that all day long. Common', you got, what, 90K miles out the old one? What does that tell you?

Look, you gotta do what you gotta do, but I frankly don't think that any of the sprung, single plate "stage 1" clutches are that much more robust. If you really want bombproof, go for the ACT Street or RPS Max - but both are serious overkill for your application. They're each rated for 500+ ft.lbs.
