Default newly purchased 06 sti? weird sound under car???

sup ppl, i just purchased a used 06 sti from a dealership and since ive had it ive noticed a few weird things wrong. Anyways, the most disturbing is occasionally during low speed turns such as pulling into a parking space or driving around a parking lot, i hear kind of like a pop/crunch/pop/pop/pop/crunch sound. Sounds like the bottom of the car is about to fall off. Anybody have any idea what this might be. The car is still under factory warranty and i have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow. Only problem is they say if the car was previously modded they might not be able to help me. Thanks for the help!

what setting is the DCCD in when the noises are made? If it's in lock, or one of the settings close to it you can get binding when you make tight, low speed turns.

First off. WELCOME MAN! Second. SEARCH THESE FOURMS like never before. Im pretty sure it's just you're diff. Deppending on how hard you take a slow turn, and how you're clutching the car, it will make alot of noise. It's just the differentials. Get used to it, im sure the dealership will tell you the same thing. Good luck!

my dccd is in auto....i switched it to manual and then lowered the "meter?" all the way to the very bottom..(assuming this was the safest setting?). And on the way home from work it didnt make any noise. i think... Man if its normal that is going to be a huge weight off my shoulders. It literally sounds like something is about to self destruct under the car when it happens. My sister rode in the car and when it did it she was like "omg wtf was that?!" thanks for the quick replies fellas!!

^ yeah man, thats part of owning an sti. They dont tell you that when you buy it of course. Just keep in the back of you're head, its a race car before its a street car IMO.

i would leave it auto for most of your driving. You shouldn't be having trouble with the diff's when the dccd is in auto. If you keep hearing binding noises then i would take it back to the dealership. does the car shake or buck at all when it makes those noises?

kind of but not really...i need to try and duplicate it for the dealership tomorrow and hopefully they take care of it. But im starting to find out that my car might be modded or 'has been' modded to hell. Im thinking its got an aftermarket catless dp. So thats not good. I can tell the guy before me had a fmic becuase the front bumper is missing the lower grill. Anything subaru denies the dealership i bougt the car from needs to take care of it because i have a 60 day warranty with them.

now that i think of it i dont think it shakes or bucks but it really sounds not normal. Its loud as hell. I cant describe it but just imagine a gut wrenching pop crunch sound. (if you dont know anything about sti's of course)

you guys gotta remember that the 06+ STI has a mechanical LSD center in addition to the DCCD. It is going to bind and make weird noises even in auto mode and the no lock setting depending on how tightly you're turning and the surface you're turning on. This is covered in the owners manual.

^ The downpipe is the least of you're worries. As long as the car has engine management. Why would you buy a car you know so little about (just curious)?
And if you know the car has been modded, and the dealership didnt tell you.. Give it back. Dont listen to all the crap they feed you, "you'll be fine, we can fix it" they will fix it for a short period of time, and when yr 60 days is up, they will CRAP on you. IMO

Yeah its their fault they sold you a previously modded car. Sti's do make noises but nothing that should alarm you or scare you. Get that checked out. Be careful when buying a previously modded car there could be many gremlins waiting to come out. Definitely be weary of the dealership and what they try to tell you I work at one so I see the bs that goes on all the time.

Did they mention before you bought it that it had been moddified?

Heres the way you can tell if itsthe diff. Go to a parking lot where you can make a full circle. Stop the car, and turn the wheel all the way to lock. Then start making you're turn, if you sart hearing that noise you're talking about, thats the diffs.

ok heres the official results....complete circle with steering wheel all the way locked it didnt make ANY noise left or right hand circles.

Pulling into my apartment complex its a right hand turn and i take it in 2nd gear (if it matters) and i hear a really light clunking? sound from underneath the car but it doesnt buck or jerk the car around. Im starting to think the noises im hearing or have heard are normal.
