how can you tell if you have the sti "short throw"

something obvious like shift knob style or do i have to take it apart

If you unscrew the knob and push down the boot, the lever should be gold. Thats how it was on my wrx ill have to check in the morining

I dunno, I'm very satisfied with the stock non-short throw shifter in my 06. no complaints. Would an upgrade to the TIC stuff show a notable difference for me? I mean, they say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...

thats probably because the car is still fairly new. The older those stock bushings get, the more sloppy it gets. Upgrading to the TiC parts now will save you the trouble of the sloppy downgrade since the new bushings are polyurethane and wont wear as fast. Plus, youll probably feel better precision even if it is acceptable at the moment

yes, first thing i did when coming here was try to educate myself and read up on most of the stickies as to not flood the board with thousands of beat to death topics...

however, there are 20 forums and 20 sub forums with 40 links of interest in each which are all 40 pages long

i guess i must of missed the shifter one
