Exclamation Who has had synchro problems with their 6speed? Stock or Aftermaket clutch?

I heard that there is a possibility of a Twin Plate clutch causing premature wear on the synchros due to the plates getting hawt, warping and dragging, causing bad ju ju in the tranny.

So, I ask you.....IF you have/had problems with shifting in ANY GEAR....did you have the stock clutch, a Twin Plate, Triple plate, or an ACT/RPS HD clutch?

I was on my stock clutch, 50,000 miles. Had 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear syncros replaced. I rarely ever launch my car and it's my DD.

How much did that run you?

I'm at 60k and 5th and 6th are grinding on me when I shift hard (+70mph) this had cost me a great deal of time on the 1/4, not that that really matters.

Stock clutch

Mine was replaced under warranty cuz I got the extended warranty to 6yrs\100K miles. I looked at the dealer copy of the repair order and the syncros alone were $600 a piece. I think all in all it was almost $4000 in parts and labor. But it was free for me!

Don't remember when 4th went since it's been so long now. One of these days I'll swap in the spare tranny I have here and rebuild this one, but quite honestly I've gotten so used to timing up and downs into 4th that it's not a problem anymore.

I had it on my stock clutch, which was replaced at 27k with a RPS disk and resurfaced flywheel. It progressively got worse. I initially had valvoline dino oil in after the clutch change, switched to mobile synthetic and a couple of other different gear oils which all had the same problem. Then I decided to try a royal purple version of uncle scotty's coctail at 35k and have not had any problems since then. I am now at 67k.

I make it a point to rev-match and double-clutch as much as possible to make things as easy for my tranny as possible. I hate the idea of having to rebuild my tranny. If the time comes, I'll probably try and do the same route as you. Buy working one and rebuild sticker.

not sure why "ACT or RPS HD (single plate...stock replacement)" is in the same choice, this should be at least 3 separate choices.

i have the RPS and it's not the same as the ACT.

Because both ACT and RPS are close enough in torque ratings and probably are the most common clutch upgrades.

I guess I was talking about the 475lb ACT or the 500lb RPS rated clutches.

I have no idea what other clutches that ACT or RPS makes for our cars.

RPS has a 6 puck option as does ACT, ACT also has a 4 puck option.

+1

I always do the same, its just habbit now. My Trans am has a POS tranny, the syn. have been griding since 25K, but as long as I rev match the downshifts I have no problems. I think the reason most clutches and trannys go out is because of poor driving, I have know most subarus trannys to go for the life of the vehicle, clutches usually in the ballpark of 100k. btw, i am a subaru dealer tech so I see alot of things most people dont.

What kind of RP blend are you using? I've used Redline 2 part 75-80 & 1 part 75-80NS originally and did not have a problem. Thought about throwing a small amount of Shockproof for cold weather, but haven't seen it being used in street applications, so I'm a little hesistent about that.

My lazy (_|_) went with Mobil Dino @ 30k and I'm getting occasional synchro problems in 2th and 4th now. Was gonna go back to Redline, but would like to hear more about this Uncle Scotty's ****tail.

royal purple will solve your grinding issues. I use to have the same grinding problem until i switched to royal purple 75 90 max gear! Great stuff!
