Default Motul PA 90 vs Suby Fluid for Rear Diff

I tried searching but couldn't find what I was looking for...

What are the benefits of using Motul PA 90 vs the Suby Fluid for the Rear Diff?

I just replaced my rear diff fluid with Motul PA 90 and the rear feels a little smoother. But one of the main differences is that Motul is synthetic and the Suby fluid is dino. The benefits of synthetic vs. dino can be found all over the internet.

Also I believe that the Motul fluid has a higher boiling point. This will help keep your diff lubricated better when you're doing "spirited" or track driving.

Of the people who have had problems, did any of them use Motul PA 90? If so, what were those problems.

Thanks!

Get the Motul PA 90. It meets spec and works fine. As does Motul 300 for the trans. People have problems running oil that does not meet spec, mixing crap, wrong weight oil, etc. I hate blanket statements that are inaccurate.....

there are special additives in both the subaru tranny and rear diff oil.

it is suggested to use those.

Does Motul own their own refinery? Does Subaru?

Motul, Royal Purple, Amsol, Redline, Subaru OEM...none of them own a refinery...think about that for awhile.

I'm thinking about it.

And I'd rather use a formula designed by subaru for subarus instead of a fluid designed to be used for as wide a range of vehicles as possible.

not trying to convince you to use subaru, that's up to you.

isn't subaru tranny fluid just rebaged castrol? If so, what additives are there that make it any different than off the shelf fluid?

Ours is not the only type of 6spd or rear diff in the world...Motul meets the specs and works...it's not as complicated as people make it out to be. That being said, use what makes you feel best. /

I just had some Motul 300 and Motul PA90 put in my car. Even though I've only driven it for about 20 miles so far, it feels the same as it did with the OEM stuff. I was expecting the shifts to be a lot smoother but I guess its our tranny that makes it somewhat hard to shift. Oh well, this is just normal maintenance that I needed to do anyways. I need to put more miles on it before I can decide whether or not I would use it again.

Ya got it backwards.

The Subaru LSD Oil is a 90wt synthetic.

Motul 90pa is non-synthetic. It says "Mineral" in big letters on the front of the jug.

I used the 90pa. The diff was fine for 10k miles, then started acting weird. I changed it with fresh fluid, and noticed more "pop" in parking garages, but didn't think much of it. Then one day when it was raining I almost looped the car - twice. The rear had way less traction. I changed it out for the stock fluid and the car's behavior returned to normal.

Wow, I didn't realize that. Maybe I should have just stuck with the Suby oil for the rear diff?
