Haven't tried royal purple yet. I believe it takes 4.3 quarts.

Has anyone been recommended to use or not to use synthetic oils in the trans?

People really do seem to frown on RP gear oil.

I'm a big fan of the OEM tranny oil, but if you choose to go aftermarket, Redline 75W90 NS has few complaints.

Where are you guys getting the Subaru special s fluid?

My trans. oil dipstick is reading right on the low line and I'd like to top it off. I called all the local subaru dealerships (4 total) and none of them have heard of the subaru special s fluid. Also, none of the dealerships could find it in their parts database to order. They all stock valvoline gear oil. They only place I've seen the special s fluid is at subarugenuineparts.com; 20 gallons for $135, c'mon.

Yea same thing for me called all the dealers near me, and none of them heard of subaru's Extra S fluid.......
