Default Some Pretty bad clutch slipping

So this past monday i was on my way to work and an RS4 rolled up next to me. I really didnt think i had much of a chance but i wanted to have some fun. soo i decided to launch and then thats where it all went wrong, i was pinging in first and the i let of the gas peddle and shifted to second and immediately went from race mode to grandma mode and it still pinged in second then i just went to netrual and then waited and then went to third and it caught. my car reaked of clutch and i was depressed. this hasent happend before and i have launched my car a total of 4 times now. that being the fourth, im at 36k miles, im trying to decide on either a aftermarket clutch or stick with the OEM. im not going to upgrade my turbo at all, im eventually going to go stage 2, thats about it. my friend drove my car and said i probably have 3-4 months. and after reading a few other threads, im seeing that a stock clutch is fine for the stock turbo, and that aftermarket clutches dont last as long. soo after all that, money is semi tight, i was expecting to drop around $600-$1000. suggetions please!!!!!!

oh and ps. i drive the car pretty much hard, but like i said, i do limited launching. thanks again!!

You should confirm that the clutch is the problem and not something else. Sounds to me like you just missed a gear or two in all that street racing excitement, then burned a little clutch after recovering. If your engine is pinging, it's probably not the clutch, or you have other things to worry about too.

To check for clutch slippage, go WOT in 4th or 5th gear - if your rpms increase but your speed doesn't, then the clutch is slipping. Engine pinging shouldn't have anything to do with it.

After my protune, my stock clutch started to slip with the increased torque. Replaced with an RPS Street Max and all is good. Clutch plus install was about $1K iirc.

Thank you much for the info wi77iam, I'll try the WOT tomorrow on the freeway, but I know for a fact that I was in gear, while starting in first, know that i think about it, i wasnt so much as pinging in first and second, but like you mentioned, increasing rpms but not speed, hopefully I will make the clutch last for a bit, I was thinking about an exedy stage 2, I havent heard much about RPS clutchs, how do you like it? How is the feel??

You know, I had really bad luck with one of those - only 12K and it was toast on a 400whp car. Zero hard launches, smooth shifting, rev-matching, you name it. It felt great for about 10K miles and then it started to shudder badly and 2K miles later it started slipping. We pulled it off and the friction plate was worn down to the rivets.

Could've just been a bad one, I dunno.

Yeah, but as I said it simply could've been a bad one. Frankly, my motor puts out a lot of torque for that organic plate clutch so it probably was not the best choice. It hasn't bummed me out about Exedy, however: I have a TP in it now, and am very satisfied.

thats some good info about the exedy, my friend has one for his 300z and he says he loves it. im leaning towards the exedy but anyone have any info on the RPS?? someone is offering me a deal on an RPS MAX series clutch.

TP = twin plated??

Yes, an Exedy Hyper Twin Plate. The RPSMax is a helluva clutch, and it's rated for 500 ft/#'s at the crank. If I hadn't gotten the deal I did for the TP, that would've been my choice.
