IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Ive heard from some people that shifting in an STI is different from a normal manual car. Ive been practicing driving a manual for about a week now so I am very new to it. I will be getting an STI within a month and I was just wondering if there are any differences? Are the gears longer or shorter? The Clutch? Anything. Thanks This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2007 Trader Rating: (3) | 1.Push in Clutch 2.Put in first gear...Drive 3.push in clutch 4.Shift to second gear...drive. 5.Rinse and repeat steps until you reach sixth gear. Downshift accordingly A stick is a stick buddy. Everyone is a little different. Sti's are notchy but they still shift just like anthing else |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2006 Trader Rating: (3) | No significant differences. Howver, there are some minor differences. Minor differences: 1. 6 speed versus typical 5 speed. 2. Close ratio gear box versus typical over-drive gear box. What that means is that in a typical 5 speed over-drive gear box, you'll do a lot of driving in 3rd and 4th gears and typically only use 5th gear when on the interstate. In a 6 speed close ratio gear box, you'll be using 3rd, 4th and 5th like you would 3rd and 4th in the earlier scenario. That means you'll be doing more shifting and making clean 4th to 5th shifts is a litle more challenging then making a 3rd to 4th shift. Similarly, making a 5th to 4th downshift is more challenging than the 4th to 3rd downshift simply because of the shift pattern of the transmission. Gary |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2004 Trader Rating: (2) | It is different. You can't just dump the clutch like a FWD or RWD. I can't downshift into 1st most of the time on a slow roll. Sometimes it won't even go into second until the right speed is reached. Something built in that prevent it from happening. Drive it like a FWD or RWD and say bye bye to your drivetrain. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | I noticed that the clutch was a little more touchy than I was used to. It took me a while to get out of some of the bad habits that I had from driving some of the more lenient cars like Civics and such. |

^^^^ Good Point. Once you test drive the Sti.....learn to- Keep the "revv"s" up a "little" higher with the smaller engine.... Performance driving is a little different than normal- put in Clutch shift to second deal..Search is your friend here...READ...READ...READ.... This ad is not endorsed by this member.
