Arrow About to get an electric buffer/poilsher..etc.. have some questions

I am on autopia's website as I am sure most of us have been on ....

I am going to get myself a orbiting car polisher... but I have many quetions.

On their site it looks like they have 3 different models...

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/pcdepot.html

1:Ultimate Detailing Machine
2:Sonus SFX Polisher Kit
3:Porter Cable 7424 Car Polisher

I have read many many reviews on the Poter Cable from users on the boards here and they like it. I like hte Sonus because you can get different backs or pads for it and it seems very easy to change........

However I am a bit confused after which one to get as far as the proper products after to make the paint look nice.......
I take very good car of my car's paint, and wash it almost weekly sometimes twice... I use nxt gen wax. I claybard last year using Mcguiries car bar...

I do definatly have swirl/light marks on the paint... the color is aspen white.

I have NEVER used one of these polisher's before so I am a little weary as I have heard you can burn through the paint.. which I DON'T want to do...lol

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-polishing.html

Is a little crash course on how to use a polisher which helps in reading but I guess my main question are what products do I need.

Here is my mental list of what I already own/getting
1.Gold class soap (own two jugs)
2.Nxt Gen Soap (own two jugs)
3.Mcguires clar bar (own)
4.Nxt Gen wax (own)
5.Zymol Cleaner Wax (own, but not very happy with it...)
6.TONS of micro fiber cloths(own)
7.Spray quick detailers
Misc cleaning products..

But for the polisher...
Pads.. Do I buy the set that have all of them or do I only get specific ones?
Which polisher out of the above 3 to get...?
Which type of Polish... Sonus SwirlBuster Polish, Ultimate Paint Cleanser, Ultimate Swirl Mark Remover
OR here is a whole link:
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/car-p...l-remover.html

I guess my bigest problem is there are 20 different polishes... and being that I have never used one it's a bit over whelming to figure out which one I specificly need as I don't want something TOO abrasive to where it will do more harm than good... but I also want something that will take out the swirl marks or light scratches that are visible when the sunlight hits the paint...
IE: Take a spider web and lay it on the paint, and you can see those lines, that is what my paint looks like when you look at it from different angles or when there is direct light...
There are also some polishes that state "Engineered to work with the Porter Cable 7424 Car Polisher" does that mean you can't use another polisher?
I want a polisher that is going to last but I also want something that I won't have to buy all new things if it's oboleate... like if I buy a Sonus electric polisher.. in a year from now will I be able to get the pads for..? Stuff like that..

I have searched and read many quetsions and threads about this.. but it is overwhelming....

Thanks,
-Nigel

get pc and call it a day. It wont burn ur paint since it is a orbital polisher.

For the polish everybody uses different. I am a klasse fan. I use their AIO polish and seal and lasts atleast 6 months. Also, after every wash my car feels so smooth.

http://www.autogeek.net/po.html

Which would you recommend?

There are 15 different choices... Are all the PC on that page have variable speed?
Or are they only two speeds?

Thanks,
-Nigel

Get the PC 7424. I have it and I love it. I live in Bethesda and I'll be using mine within the next few days so if you want to come by I can show you how to use it and what products I use, etc. I used to detail professionally so I can pass along some of the knowledge I picked up during that time.

I bought this one and I had good luck with it. I did my gf's scion with it and she has a dark color and then I did my SWP 07 with it and was very happy with the results. Just took forever because I used that meguires three step wax. But in the end I was happy. I dont think it is quite the quality of the pc though. But for now it works for me.

My dad has been using Griot's products for years on his BMWs and I have always given him a bit of a hard time about how militant he was about me using them too. I tried them once and I don't use anything else now, my car looks great considering it takes me snowboarding 30ish times a season.

Give the site a look, tons of cool stuff besides just was/polish but he also has a lot of good instruction on HOW to properly wax your car which could be applied to products from anyone.

i love Optium products. Definitely give them a try. Their wash (Optimum No Rinse wash and shine) and wax (optimum spray wax) are two products i could not live with out. The ONR comes very concentrated and you can mix it up into the regular wash solution, a quick detailer, or a clay lube. The wax is super easy to apply, has no abrasives (so it doesnt swirl by OBP) and no cleaners, so it doesnt dry white on my trim. It leaves a deeper and wetter shine than meg's nxt paste wax and seems to last as long.

Detailers: what buffers do you use?

I think the UDM is a better deal. If I understand correctly, its a 7424 with the velcro backing plate. Saves you ~$20.

all you need is 3m compound, 3m swirl remover like a number 3, and some 3m hand glaze, and for pads use a white egg pad for the compound, and a dark egg for swirl,, rpm for compound about 1800, and swirl about 1400 and dont wax it if you can wax is not all it is craked up to be, just wash it and it will be fine and for protecting the paint that is why you have clear coat.. it has uv blockers in it.. so you dont need wax.
