If you have a polisher or buffer you can use it with a mildly abrasive polish, some tar and bug removers work, and also some of those rubbing alcohol pads from first aid kits work. If you use the alcohol pads make sure to wash the area afterwards and rewax it.

DO NOT SPRAY BRAKE CLEANER ON YOUR PAINT! I just had to all caps that because I can't stress it enough. I would first try a clay bar, making sure to keep the bar well lubricated. If that doesn't work, bug and tar remover will do the trick, but the clay should get the job done and it never hurts to clay your car a couple times a year anyways. Just make sure you polish/wax afterwards.

Brake cleaner and car paint doesn't mix very well.

Wash the car first then use Meguiar's mild claybar and some Meguiar's 34 quick detailer spray, it will take off the sap.

I use turtle wax bug and tar remover and it worked beautifully. After washing my car and drying it, I just sprayed that sucker all over the rear and everything came off.

Tree sap is nasty stuff. I had a spot on my fender that got baked on pretty good. Bug & tar remover didn't work, so I took it to my friend's body shop. He tried to buff it out, but it didn't work. He apparently had to wet-sand it.

You can still see where the spot was, because it softened the paint underneath.
