If I do it by hand, I do it like this with these products (Meguiar's only):

1. Wash the car with dishwashing soap (this removes any cleaning/wax/sealer that was on there previously)

2. Wash the car with Meguiar's NXT Generation Car Wash (I have a tendency to do this twice with a power washer. Power washers really get the job done.)

3a. The "a" is for if I clay bar it. I use Meguiar's Clay Bar with Meguiar's Quick Detailer Spray.

3b. If I don't clay bar it, I use Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax.

4. Last, I go over it real quick with Meguiar's Quick Detailer for the extra shine.

To clean the wheels of all brake dust/dirt/etc I first hit it with Castrol's Degreaser, hose it off, then I clean them up real nice Mothers Power Ball and Meguiar's Endurance Tire Shine. It doesnt make it shine like some of the spray on, which is what I like. I like that nice sleek look.

If I use Orbital Buffer, I use Meguiar's Cordless Orbital Buffer. Then I do it a lil different:

1. Wash the car with dishwashing soap (this removes any cleaning/wax/sealer that was on there previously)

2. Wash the car with Meguiars NXT Generation Car Wash (I have a tendency to do this twice with a power washer. Power washers really get the job done.)

3. Then I use Meguiar's Compound Power Cleaner #84 with the Orbital Buffer. (Use with rotary buffer only, not dual action polisher or by hand.)

4. Next I use Meguiar's Machine Glaze #3. (Its a polish, not a wax. Makes the finish extremely glossy, but not protected.)

5. For the wettest looking finish, I use Meguiar's #81 hand polish. (Use a variable speed polisher. It is labor intensive but it is the best.)

6. Then I finish with Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax.

7. And lastly, If you want it to feel good and look even better, then after the NXT, finish with Meguiar's Professional Hi-Tech Yellow Wax #26 with carnuaba.

Talk about glossy, that detail job, in the sun, will blind people. No joke. If I do it by hand, normally takes about 6 hours. If I do it with the orbital buffer, usually takes about 9 hours. Then again when I do it, I wake up at like 6 in the morning to begin, before it gets hot and sunny out. Sun is no good when you are detailing your car.

For the Interior, again, Meguiar's Quick Interior Cleaner. No shine like Armor All, but cleans and protects, making it look new. I use a 20 Gallon 6.5hp Shop-Vac to suck up all that dirt and crap. And for those little hard to get to crevices, I use toothpicks.

And If the outside of your headlights look a lil faded or has that like foggy look, take some toothpaste and Mothers Power Ball, and make them look new again.

I think thats about it.

/novel.

EDIT: Something to pay very close attention to. Watch it. This is for the people who dont use a Orbital Buffer and are thinking about trying it. Watch all 5. Very informative:

I am very very very amature when it comes to detailing.

I wish I had the time and patience to commit to learning more, but I don't (especially given the fact I own two black cars....)

I use Meguires NXT liquid wax. I think it works wonderfully (although not very durable, which is why 2.0 is looking so promising)

I take every Sunday to detail my car. Sunday mornings are perfect cuz everyone is still somewhat sleeping, and thats where the time and patience comes in. For me, its a way to get away from everyone and everything. Wether im doing a full on detail or just a wash and wax, its nice to just be alone, think about nothing, and make your car look nice.

If you get a day, take a cd player, mp3 player, or ipod, make a playlist of your favorite songs, make it nice and long, and go to town. Thats what I do.

And I own a black car as well, thats why I take so much time doing it. Buddies of mine just wash it quick, wax it with a quick spray way, and call it a day. I cant do that. I just bothers me. You will find that after you do it 1 day for a good amount of time (like my 6 hour typical wash and wax job) that you wont want to do it fast ever again. When you get that mirror finish (only after you wetsand, which I dont recommend to any unprofessional) and your car is gleaming like you just had someone do it for you, thats the pay off right there. Thats when you can sit back and say, damn...I did that.

Good luck bro, you will find your time and patience.

I use menzerna PO85RD as a polish then a coat of Menzerna FMJ. Sometimes if i am not lazy, i'll put on like three coats of FMJ after one coat of polish. When done, the car just looks very "wet". The effect is also multiplied if the car is darker. Also claying the car can have a drastic effect especially if it has never been done to the car before. Be warned though if the clay bar is used improperly, it could scratch your car. If menzerna is too expensive a very good combo that a friend of mine uses on his black S2k is the deep crystal polish from meguiars and then their nxt tech wax. of course again claying before hand is recommended.

Claying your car is not needed on a new car, but i still do it anyways. You will be surprised on what shows up.

I really recommend properautocare.com i learned a lot from this site about waxes and polishes lots of good reads.

your paint has to breath just like your skin. Carnubas tend to clog the pores of your paint essentially cutting down the life of your paint. Body shops usually use "an alternative to wax" that contains no waxes or silicones.

mhmm, id be curious what they have to say about clear bra's seeing as they "clog" the paint and pores entirely, and it's not a "rub/wear away" product, its a plastic.

all paints are electro-statically applied and kiln dried -- they do not need to breath.
