Default Detailing

Anyone big on keeping their cars really clean? Let me know what kind of wax you use and if you detail your engine what is the best way to clean it and make it look new again?

Just this past weekend I gave my car it's first good once-over (well, thrice over when all was said and done)-

After washing, I polished with Klasse All-In-One, applied a coat of Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic Jet, and then a coat of Sonus P21S Carnuba Wax. The wax was really easy to apply and remove, which was a nice surprise. The finish is really deep and wet, it looks great.

We had a good hard Seattle rain this morning and I was really pleased with the wax's performance. I would recommend it for the price (I think around $30).

As far as engine cleaning, I think the recommended treatment is Simple Green with a good brush.

look for peleg's detailing thread, should/might be a sticky. Klasse twins are a great combination.

Zaino is a terrific polish. But it's protection qualities are pathetic. I have zaino'd my car about a dozen times (only has 2000 miles on it) and it is by far the easiest product I've ever worked with.

Goes on easy, comes off easy, smells deliscious and ALWAYS makes your car looks showroom floor great. Unmatched in that quality!!! No doubt.

BUT, back to the protection qualities, next to NONE.

This past weekend I was on a one hour highway drive, when a bird dumped on my car. When I got home, it was dried. I immediately wiped it off with some detail spray and that is when I realized the crap had "etched" my clearcoat. Permanent damage.

I went out and bought some Zymol right after that. I hear great things about it. It is fairly easy to work with, just don't put it on too thick or you'll be sorry.

I needed a harder wax with greater protection, hopefully the Zymol will do the job. I will keep you updated on it.

Hope that helps some

Default best wax

Collinite's no. 845 Insulator Wax. It was disigned for high voltage power lines to prevent "flashovers" and air planes. I got it at Car Quest

Good source. When you are done there head over to http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/.

Me, got the PC and Edge pads. Some Poorboys SS1 and w2.5. Tried on the 8 year old family car with great results. Still practicing and will unleash it on the STI in the spring. I also have some DP sealant I can't wait to test out.

For the winter I did Klasse AIO followed by two coats for Klasse SG. Then topped with DP Max Wax (carnuba). I just on Sunday and finished with some Klearcoat QD spray which I sware is glossier than the wax alone. Vacuumed with my new Rigid wall mouted station. Then used 303 protectant for all the interior surfaces.

Stoner Trim car for the diffuser and wheel wheels. Stoner tire spray for the tires. I had waxed the wheels a couple weeks ago so all they got was some Klearcoat QD. Washed the windows with Sprayaway and finished off with a couple coats of Rain-X. I was in the Seattle rain as well and was also quite impressed with the performance.

Peleg is just as good if not better

Yea, the main thing for me is to prep the surface right the first time. The wax or sealant that use doesn't matter as much as prep. That said I like Poorboys/FK1/and Pinnacle for wax, and Werkstatt or Zaino for sealants.

I use Pinnacle Soverign Gold...its $75 for a small can of it, but it works great and will last me a long time.

It's all good brother.

For wax, I like Meguire's # 26 because:

1. It's a combo of both synthetic and carnauba.
2. It's smells great!
3. It's easy to apply with a microfiber applicator.
4. It's easy to get off.
5. It provides awesome final shine and protection.
6. Locally available, will not break the bank.

Remember!

POLISH is for shine

WAX is for that final gloss and protection.

Many people confuse the 2.
