actually the stuff he used on his wheels was really good all purpose cleaner (wheel acid is NOT purple, it's clear)
Pure acid is clear but there are acid-based cleaners (which have very high acid content) that are various colors. One detailing shop I used to work for used a red acid-based cleaner for extreme situations. I would definitely recommend the P21S gel cleaner, it works great and will not harm the finish on your wheels.

If you wipe down your wheels every two or three days you will only need to use a dry microfiber or soap and water...

the all purpose is very strong.
you can use a brush if it is paint safe..it's the same as a mitt just on a pole..make sure the bristles are nice and check them for debris...but i still wouldn't want to use one

i use a microfiber mitt which is great, no scratches and nothing gets stuck in the weaves..

but again, that stuff was not wheel acid and wheel acid is to only be used on severely messed up wheels to get off very old, caked on brake dust and other spots.
I don't know...

Short story to my belief Subaru uses acid on wheels to clean:

A few weeks ago we were at our summer lake house, and ordered some pizzas at like 10pm. Heard the boxer rumble coming up the driveway, it wasa wrx (pizza delivery guys). Anyhow, I talked with him for a bit and he mentioned he worked at the dealer there (Subaru). He told me that the wheel cleaner acid they use ate right into the wheels on this limited Legacy GT they have.

they supply both...wheel acid and all purpose...he was an idiot and used the acid.

i know these things the acid works great on the chrome/polished GM wheels to get off caked brake dust and other american cars...i would never ever use that **** on my rims..only the all purpose which also cleans my tire's sidewall great.
