Default Can't wax my STI until it's 6 months old?

My friend told me not to wax my brand new STI until it's at least 6 months past it's build date from the factory because you have to let the paint and clear coat time to bond and cure...... 6 months? That can't be right.

I was planning on washing and waxing my new STI tonight, but now i'm not sure. Is it okay to wax my STI?

Thanks

I don't buy that one bit. The paint is already cured. It takes about 3 months. 6 is total overkill. So don't sweat it. Wax away.

It wouldn't hurt the paint, unless you do it numerous times. I've never heared of this myth, but i wouldn't take any chances

Thats what I thought as well, only if a shop does it.

But 6 months is too much time! I would do it ASAP because thats 6 months worth of protection your going to miss out on, which I believe is important depending on how much you drive.

Wax gives it a layer of protection, to hold the current shine it has...detailer will just clean your car. :-P

Actually if you call any respectable body shop, they will tell you the same.... Paint needs time to breathe and let all of the chemicals evaporate. Waxing the car traps them in and can do damage. Three to five months should be fine, but it is not a myth at all.

your friend is on crack quite honestly ; )....look at the BUILD date of your car. It was built months and months ago. The paint is fully cured, and yes, you can wax away

This "waiting" thing is an old wives tale back from the days where paint was left to air dry. Most modern bodyshops use heat to aid in the drying process and as such. Even when left to air dry, paint dries in about 2 hours and fresh paint can be waxed within a couple weeks of the paint work being done. Heck, any paint work will include wetsanding after the paint is sprayed...and that is certainly harsher on the car than any wax

Not true. When I had my accident the body shop told me that I could wax my car the same day I picked it back up after they repainted it. They have a booth that they heat up and let the paint cure in. A lot of body shops are getting these types of booths now so there is no delay in curing time.

Yes paint jobs need to cure before waxing or sealing but they come cured from the factory already and like Z1 said, the car was built months ago anyway. I washed, clayed, and waxed my STi withing 2 hours of picking it up.
