Default An Ounce of Prevention

In this case an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Poorboy's Wheel Wax/Sealant (or similar product) prevents brake dust from strongly adhering to and eating through the clearcoat and into the paint.

I applied 3 - 5 coats of the sealant to my cleaned rims after removing them from the vehicle, with 24-36 hours between sealant applications to allow hardening of the wax. The sealant/wax results in reduced accumulation and allows easier removal of brake dust.

Unless the painted BBS rims are protected you will have to be cleaning them all the time and this is just too much trouble.

There is a seller of Poorboy's on eBay whose prices seem reasonable, particularly when more than one product at a time is ordered.

I second this. Waxing the wheels helps the dust release with a mild car soap instead of an expensive, harsh cleaner. It costs less expense than using a deticated wheel cleaner every cleaning and helps reduce the damage to the clear coat.

On my wheels, so far I've tested Wheel Wax and Meg NTX. Both did the job fine but Wheel wax a tad easier to remove. I just put Klasse AIO on, results pending. But if the performance on the wheels is anything like that of the car, I'll most likely stick with AIO, layering with Klasse SG.

BTW I have a bottle of PS21 and use for suborn dust, mostly when working on wheels that haven't been waxed yet. Its great and as wheel cleaners go, I think its one of the better ones.

Default Re: God's gift to the STI owner to combat that Brembo brake dust

So... In some form of synopsis...

1. No one wants to spend 30 minutes - 1 hour a week cleaning wheels.
2. Spend more money for PH neutral wheel cleaners and let it sit without worry or spend less for potentially caustic (due to PH difference) wheel cleaners and spray off after the recommended 30 seconds.
3. Cleaning wheels that are not attached to your car has tremendous advantages.
4. Applying a waxy finish to your clean wheels makes it possible for quick application of soap and pressure spray to remove brake dust with ease.

Either one will eventually eat into the aluminum. I drive fast and I don't need to be worrying about a potential weakening of the rims. As far I know Porsche recommends P21S and for the reasons stated above.
Drive it like you stole it!!
Well said bro
