I just ordered some sonus rimbright from autopia.com and it works really really well. I think it's similar to the P21s in that it uses a specific pH for removing the dust. Highly recommended product.

It will make the surface smooth again and prevent it from caking it even more into the corners and will not scratch the wheel.
This isnt a bad idea.......or you could just not let it cake up in the 1st place!!!

"greased lightning" not sure if its bad for paint or powder or not, but i used to use it on all my other cars and it works AWSOME. For the sti i just use a supersoft brush and soap and water then finish up w/ a towel by hand.

I had some pretty heavy caked on dust due to rain and poor weather conditions. I sprayed p21s gel on and let it sit and hosed it off. I then sprayed the regular p21s on and used the sponge and the wheels look great and the wheels have stayed cleaner longer.

I bought the car used and they has always been caked up dust in the corners of the spokes. Even p21s gel sitting for 3hrs and and normal spay hasnt gotten it all off. Any suggestions???

from personal experience.. just about all "off the shelf" products do not work well on our bbs wheels. Even with some brake dust build up, majority of these products will require your elbow grease... sometimes, it'll require A LOT of elbow grease. The problem i see with these products are that they do not stick long enough to break up the dust. You spray them on, and 10-20 seconds later, they're all on the ground! Well, I ordered some P21S GEL wheel cleaner, I just hope that this product will work up to its reputation.

Ok so basically just keep your wheels clean ...Now to my problem that I encountered with the car i just bought two weeks ago that has under 10 thou miles on it. There is significant surface rusting on the inside of the wheel and ive used wheel cleaner, pressure washer and am getting very annoyed with it. The rust was there when i bought the car and thought oh well i can clean that off i mean its just the brake dust becouse the wheels are alloy.... I am getting a new wheel lock tommorow to finally take the wheels off and was told that the blue non scratch scotch brite sponges will take care of it but if anyone has a good idea of how to remove this and No I would never spray Oven cleaner on any part of a car, thats just not a good idea its for ovens for gods sake. Any ideas ??

You should just bring it to where you bought it and tell them about it. (If it was a dealer), plus I think you should have warrenty on the wheels from Subie maybe.

About the brake dust, we just hose it off, rub some gojo on the rims, rub it in with a paper towel, let it sit then hose it off. Plus it'll take off grease and what not from the back side of the wheels too!

Maybe we should run a P21S Wheel Cleaner and P21S Autowash deal?

any recommendations for heavy CAKED in dust????

i mean CAKED IN... sigh...

i bought the P21S clone, the S100 from a harley dealer and it didnt touch the caked in dust.

i'm looking at MORE extreme measure now... like maybe that fine steel wool mentioned above.

btw, where would one get that fine steel wool?

are you talking about the inner wheel or the whole wheel?

I would take the wheel off the car and soak the wheel in P21S over night. Then I would scrub them from there.

If that doesn't work I would use some of the orange hand cleaner (jojo I think and use that to scrub from there.) Then clay, polish, and wax the wheel once that's done I would make sure I up keep them.

Or you can get new wheels

for the really hard to get stuff, ive used aggressive polishes... like poorboy's SSR3, to get that off. worked well for me on the BBS's

The way i do it is clean the wheels very well first with meguiars hot wheel cleaner and a soft wheel brush. Then dry them. Then apply a coat of Wheel Wax. After it hazes just rub it off with a microfiber towel. The next time you have to clean your wheels just use some car soap on a soft wheel brush to clean it off. It makes it very easy. Just apply wheel wax every other month or so.

just google wheel wax and you should be able to find it.

I usually use P21S gel and it works great but for the really stubborn stuff it just doesn't cut it. For that I use Meguiars Wheel Brightener cut 4:1 and it melts most brake dust right off.

Yes I would agree P21S and clay bars are your friend. Super safe for wheels:
