Depends on how much polishing you're going to do. I normally have two on hand. Once one starts to get caked up, I wash it in dawn and then rinse it really well. Put the damp pad back on the PC and turn it on 6, make sure you are far away from the car, because it will sling water! This drys the pad fairly well. Put it somewhere clean to dry the rest of the way while you get back to polishing with the second pad. By the time that one is caked up, the first one should be dry. Or you could just buy a bunch of pads and just wash them at the end. Like anything else, depends on preference and $$$

Just as a reminder, the engine bay guide is on page #2, post # 22.

My top choices of engine bay degreaser are:

Autoglym (made in the UK) or P21S all purpose (made in Germany)

Whats a good polish to get rid of heavy swirls? I used my PC w/ orange pad (medium cutting) with this followed by by this and it didn't get rid of all the swirls. I figured I would use the aggressive pad next time but want to see if there are any other good options. I also have the meguiars 3 step that has a medium polish.

It's back up. I'm a sucker for infomercials, I might give it a try on a friends ride.

I had great luck with Sonus stage 2 from Autopia.

I once bought one of those "All in one cleaner", I think the same guy was on that infomercial.

The product was this pinkish paste that was suppose to replace EVERY cleaner in the house.

I don't think I ended up using it that much if at all.

Don't quite recall if it worked.

When polishing, there are usually 3 different groups of polishes:

1. Fine cut. (for old paint jobs)

2. Swirl removers.

3. Final polish.

The manufacture recommends using different pads for each polish, which I agree with. Due to that, they make different colored pads in different textures.

They bundle the Porter with different brands of polish.

So I would say, if you already have a brand of polish you own and like, find a package that offers the porter with just a variety of pads.

If you want to try a new polish bundle, then get a package that includes the swirl remover, final polish etc.

Also depends on your budget. It can get pricey very quickly.

This is a pretty serious package for example:

http://www.autogeek.net/wolfgang-por...l-remover.html

This is great if you really want to get into the art of detailing and get your car looking like a million dollars for a show or just for kicks.

Here is a similar package, but it doesn't have the wrench included. It also has a different brand of pads and polish:

http://www.autogeek.net/xmtpocaswrek.html

Here is an affordable kit if you already own some polish that you like, this kit includes all the pads you need, wrench, porter and some cleaners.

It really depends on the condition of your paint. If it's old and/or has heavy swirls, you can start with a fine cut polish to "bring the paint back to life".

Then you can follow with a swirl remover to get the swirls out.

Then final polish for the shine.

Then either wax + sealant OR wax + glaze + sealant. It really depends on how detailed you want to get with this. You can easily spend an entire Saturday working on your paint.

There are also products that replace both wax + glaze like liquid glass.

The choice is harder with polishing because there is a ton of brands out there.

Here are a few: Sonus, Meguiar's, Wolfgang, Pinnacle, Zaino and more.

Do some reading and read reviews on these brands.

Most websites choose 1 or 2 brands that they sell exclusively (like Sonus) and try to market it aggressively, however it may not be the best, so read the reviews.

I have tried Sonus and Meguiar's and they were pretty good. Sonus is very expensive in terms of quantity/price, you don't get alot.

Meguiar's is pretty good, you get more for the money in terms of quantity and it's available locally in most car parts stores, so don't buy that online.

I haven't tried Wolfgang or Pinnacle. I believe Wolfgang is made in Germany, Pinnacle may be a domestic brand, but check first.

You can also give Autogeek a call and ask for a recommendation.
