i went to my neighbor who works in an autobody shop, and he gave me a bottle of touch up paint. he guided me through the process. my car is OBP, and he says that black touches up the best, at least it hides better. just take the brush, and try to get any paint off the dipstick and save a little on the brush. if you dont paint will ooze down the stick and onto the brush, and leave a big goober on the paint. just dab a little bit to cover the chip, and try not to get any on the original paint. I just did this today, and he said we're gonna have to buff, and do some more stuff to it. I'll update when we finish. but so far with just the touch up paint, it makes a huuge diff!

Finally clayed my car yesterday for the first time! wow what a difference..

Just washed/clay/washed/waxed.

As I was going through this thread kept reading about polish. That I didn't do yesterday. Nor do I know how to do or know what it does. Hell im scared to even attempt it. Maybe because I don't know how it works. I don't have a polisher so I would have to attempt by hand.

My car shines 10x better than my last wash. SMOOTHER! but I still want that deep deep shine.

Is that where the polish comes in? If so which brand or kind? Meguiars?... I don't have much swirl marks.

I'm glad to hear that more folks are trying the claybar and enjoying the results. I used to be scared of it, until I tried it a few times. Once you master it, it's piece of cake.

When you claybar, make sure to use plenty of lube. I use the Meguiar's Quick Detail spray as a lube believe it or not, and it works great.

One of the posters said he was afraid to polish, don't be. You can do it by hand but I recommend doing so with an orbital polisher.

I like Meguiar's # 7 which is final polish.

Sonus # 3 is another good one, but pricer.

Zaino is another great one. I haven't tried it, but heard alot of good things.

Pictures?

Wash them first.

An orbital polisher and some fine cutting polish should do this, but I would check with the polish maker first before applying them on my headlights.

Now if you really want them looking new again, I believe http://www.autogeek.net has a special kit they sell (brand is Poorboy's) for headlight restoration, so I would look into that one.

Lets see... Since I already waxed my car, Can I polish on top of the wax? Will the polish remove wax, which I have to wax again correct?

I used NXT wax which I got when it first came out.

If I don't have a orbital and try to attempt by hand, is there any certain way I should apply it and remove it, thats if it needs to be removed.. *edit- hopefully I can purchase a orbital in the near future..

Thanks!

also when I clayed.. I wasn't sure if i was doing it right because nothing was coming off so i was kinda skeptical... so i did half and half on hood.. man sure was a difference.. especially back bumper where the exhaust is.. eeek.. all this brown nasty stuff starting coming off.

Headlight restoration kit:

http://www.autogeek.net/plastik-lens-cleaning.html

Sorry, it's by Wolfgang, not Poorboy.

Whatever you do, DO NOT USE SANDPAPER ON THE HEADLIGHTS!!!!!!!

Someone here did it a while ago and I don't think he liked the results.

If you really want to be anal about it, you will need to claybar the entire car, then polish and then wax.

When you polish, use a microfiber applying pad, let the polish haze and then use a microfiber buffing towel.

Polish should NOT scratch anything, UNLESS:

1. You did not wash the car. DUH!!!!!!!!

2. You're using a poor quality pads/towels.

If your seal is cracking, get it replaced under warranty.

As far as protection, seals are rubber.

There are many rubber/vinyl/plastic protection products out there from almost every brand.

My favorite is Sonus Total Eclipse. (http://www.autopia-carcare.com)
