They only bad thing about the Hot rims (which I use myself for the convienence) is that it is acid based.

Folks, I apologize, but I didn't get a chance to take care of the wheels this weekend.

Had to fly to Dallas, TX for business and got back later today.

This project will be taking place next weekend.

Also got 2 new products I will write about:

1. Autoglym (a UK brand) glass polish (not a cleaner, but polish).

2. OXO ice remover.

More updates soon!

autoglym is good stuff. You will like it!

By the way, what do you need an ice remover for in nor-cal?

My Integra parks outside and is covered with thick ice every morning when I leave for work.

The heater will melt it, but that takes a while.

In order to make I can see where I drive (that would help eh? ) I got the oxo ice scraper.

Default How clean are your wheels?

As promised, today I got to do a really cool project with the STi wheels. As you know, the brembo dust and road tar takes a huge toll on the wheels and after a while, they get all black.

Before you begin this project, make sure you get enough sleep and a good breakfast, because it is very energy and time consuming. I was able to handle one car, so I guess I will do mine next week.

Tools you'll need:

1. Pressure washer.

2. P21S concentrate.

3. Oxo and Meguiar wheel brushes.

4. Heavy duty dishwashing gloves.

5. Eye protection.

6. 19 mm socket, wheel lock key. (for stock STi wheels)

7. Torque wrench.

8. Jack, jack stands.

9. Poorboy's wheel sealant.

If you're going to wash the entire car, do this AFTER the wheels in order to let the brakes cool, unless you didn't drive the car before.

So lets get cracking, you can do this one side at a time. Jack up the car on one side:

Take the wheels off onto a grassy area, don't do this on concrete or you'll scratch the wheels.

Start with the outside first, hose the first wheel and spray with P21S, let that sit for 2 minutes.

Repeat the second wheel and let that sit.

Back to the first wheel, scrub with the Meguiar's brush, rinse. Examine the wheel. You can also change the setting on the pressure washer to a high water jet and hit the corners. (DO NOT use this setting on your car's paint!)

Flip the wheels. Hose the inside (this is where things get serious), spray with the P21S and let that sit.

Repeat the other wheel, let that sit.

Back to the first wheel, scrub the inside, don't forget the sidewall. You should be able to get about 85-90% of the dirt/tar and all the other crap that gets onto the wheels.

Hose the wheel, do the second wheel.

Repeat again if needed.

At the end, dry each wheel with a towel and apply some Poorboy's wheel sealant, buff off and you're all set.

Are you tired yet? Too bad, because you got the other side as well.

This is RAPTR's car. We were quite astonished with the results. This is a great procedure before you go to a car show, selling your wheels or selling the car.

If you got a micrometer, this is a good time to check your rotors thickness. You can also examine the CV boots for any cracks, and examine the tires for any nails, etc.

You can also use the P21S on the calipers and rotors and hose those down. (brakes MUST be cool!!!)

Afterwards, we gave the car a good wash and it was ready to go.

I wanted to ask, has anyone found a good wheel wax product?

I was thinking of putting such product on the inside of the wheels after I get them clean.

Actually, the weather in NorCal has been very very cold lately. The grass near our place freezes every night.

It was pretty cold early in the morning when we started working.

If you're in NorCal and want the COMPLETE wheel cleaning procedure done, shoot me a PM or email for a price/appointment.

I haven't taken my wheels off to check yet, but is the inside clear-coated like the outside is? I've had extremely good results on all of my cars by just using the exact same polish and wax on my wheels as I use on the rest of the car - it makes it 100x easier to take the brake dust off...

I'm trying to think, the inside looked like it had the same texture..........I'd say yes on that one.

yes, they should be clearcoated inside out....did a similar process to psiaddict's car....very time consuming, but well worth it, especially if you wax the wheels afterwards.

My 19's are open enough that even with the brembos I can still reach in there with a mit on my hand and scrub the inside of the wheel....only thing I can't get completely is the back side of the spokes....
