There is a maintenance section. The site uses Flash or something so I can not give a direct link.

Good find. From what I can tell, just water and lemon to clean the seats. I'd try water first, I'm a big fan of "try the least abbrasive stuff first" method.

Default Project Resseruction is complete!

As promised, we put AkHick's STi under the "knife" today at the Mad Scientist Detailing lab!

If you recall, the car was vandelized in Las Vegas and was there for a while for repair. During that time, nature's elements took their toll on the paint, etc.

To make a long story short, with the help of Akhick, RapTR and Hernando (future STi owner) we succeeded to turn this car around in a little less than 8 hours. Yes, that isn't a mis-print, 8 hours.

We started with the interior in order to let the brakes and engine cool down. We than wash and dried the engine and after 1.5 hours turned our attention to the body.

A good wash with Meguire's Gold class, than onto the claybar, Sonus stage 1, Sonus Stage 2 and Sonus stage 3 (YES all 3 stages) were applied to the paint!

Topping it off with my favorite, Meguire's #26 Wax.

RapTR used the opprotunity and got his car detailed as well.

I also had the parts, so we took the opprotunity to install the red key ring mod for both STi's.

At the end, we had 3 happy STi owners, and one supercharged M3 owner who thinks his loaner M3 is slow.

Before (Yikes....)

After

Default Transitioning to Meguiar's Products

I've been very impressed with Meguiar's line of products lately, that I'm slowly transitioning to their line.

First it was their Yellow # 26 Wax, which is a mixture of Carnauba wax, synthetic wax and a few other ingridients.

This weekend I used their claybar for the first time, and it was the easiest claybar to work with. Before I used Sonus (horrible claybar, their polish is better) and tried another brand that that worked better, but Meguiar's just surpassed them both. It was very very easy to mold, unlike the other 2 that were hard as a rock.

I was exclusively using Sonus polishes, but due to their price, smaller bottle and another personal reason that I'll leave out of this thread, I decided to try the Meguiar's # 7 Polish (similar to Sonus's # 3 final stage polish) and Meguiar's # 2 medium cut polish for older paints/oxidation issues, etc. Both bottles even mention to follow their content with the # 26 that I already raved about before, and produces outstanding results.

More follow up on this later.

I will also stress that using a polisher with polish instead of polishing by hand produces much better results, and can even be used on headlights and tailights to remove oxidation and other "mysterious" stains.

You can then follow with waxing by hand.

I'm glad I had to chance different products when it comes to polishing. It just shows that in some cases, the more expensive stuff is not always the best.

I use a leaf blower I bought at yardbirds a few years back. It produces wind up to 140 MPH and seems to do the trick.

Ofcourse an air compressor will achieve just that.

Touch up paint is a "touchy" subject.

According to some reading I've been doing, you have to prep the area really well, than prime it. (medium size chips lets say)

Than the primer has to dry, then you can use a very very very fine artist brush (art store ) and fill up the chip.

I'll try to clear some time from my schedule and give this some practice, see how it comes out.

Edit: I have a book about the subject. I will locate it and see what it says.
