Before I put them back on I will be slapping a couple layers of wax on them. I waxed my winter wheels before I put them on, and they clean up really fast.

Yea that's why I applied the mothers. Back when I had my 2000 GTI I applied a coat of mothers about once a week for a few months straight. The wheels were so slick I could almost blow the dust off my rims.

If I get a chance I may try the clay bar tomorrow on the bad spots and see where it gets me. Mainly I have a bunch of small black spots I can't out, but they seem to be invisible to the camera.

If you go to your local Family Dollar store in your local area theres this liquid spray cleaner called AWESOME. It takes off the little black build up that you get around the spokes & lip.
If some one could tell me how to post pics I'll show you what the bottle looks like!

use bug/tar remover on the stubborn areas.

after i removed my bbs when i sold them, there were a few tar marks in the spoke area and mucho dirt on the inside of the rim where i could not always clean perfectly.
i got a bottle of all purpose cleaner along with a bottle of bug/tar and a bucket of soap with a good soft bug type sponge and went at it.
took it off easily, i did all four in probably an hour.

The STi is not my daily driver. When I give the wheels a good take off cleaning, I have the luxury to leave it in the garage for at least a few days and just admire those wheels. I figure the car is for my enjoyment, and if I want to look at some nice clean wheels for a few days, I can. Nice job! I never thought to try the WD-40. How do you get it off? Simple green or something?

They look amazing..i recently have thought about during a thurough wheel cleaning, worth it if you ask me. On another note looks like you have the stock tires on, but stock tires+winter time = not good. I would suggest getting some different tires before rims.

I absolutely agree, but this car is not my daily, and I would hardly call this a winter right now in Maryland. Only once has it snowed with any accumulation and it was fairly pathetic. I figured since I have come this far i'm not going to bother with winter tires/rims this year.

nice job......

1- hawk GHPS pads (80% less dust)
2- wheelwax (helps keep what dust comes off em from sticking)

When I do decide to clean em, mine usually take about 1 hour. I just scrub the hell out of em with dishwashing detergent and water mix. Then rinse.

I just can't justify that amount of time. It's gone to hell in 24-48 hours.

simple green!!! You just have to get used to the "Absorbeen junior" smell. For you young ones it was a muscle rub used for sore muscles.....
