Default Wax application

How do you guys apply your wax? Meaning, do you use circular motions or do you use a straight back-and-forth motion?

I, for the longest time would use circular motions to apply my wax. But I just recently bought and received some P21S Carnauba Wax. In the jar, there is a FAQ. One of the questions is "How should I apply and remove wax?" The answer that is listed say's "You should always use a back and forth motion - in the direction of "airflow". This way, if by some chance you pick up any particulate matter, it won't be likely to cause easily visible round swirls".

I have washed and waxed my car twice now with P21S Bodywork Conditioning Shampoo and P21S Carnauba Wax. Both times I used the back-and-forth motion. It sure makes the job much quicker. I must say that this wax is superb, IMHO. Water just beads up and floats away, while driving of course. I just to find a good wheel cleaner. I may try the wheel cleaner P21 makes.

Thoughts anyone...

back and forth, circular always produces nasty things you don't wanna see...
also, make sure to use the right type of applicator...the foam round ones seem to be the best (the one that comes with meguiars tech wax)
i used some other one on a portion of my hood and well i wasn't very happy.

Yes, back and forward motions.

So for on parts of the car that are vertical (i.e. doors, fenders, bumpers) you want to use an up and down motion to apply. For parts of the car that are horizontal (i.e. hood, top of trunk, roof) you want to apply a front to back motion to apply (opposite of the up and down motion).

I guess you learn something new every day. I know the Gloss Enhancing Paint Cleanser needed to be put on in an up and down motion but didn't know Carnauba Wax needed to be applied the same way. I'll have to try this out next time I wax. What's the reasoning behind this?

Applying and polish in this manner just helps with the reflective qualities.
