There is nothing wrong with using Dawn... altho any "dish detergent" will do the same deal. And, the soap is not all tha difficult to remove.... just use some water, folks!

When I was on the Vette forum, we advised using the dish detergent twice.... then rewaxing. However, we didn't all agree on waxing in general.

Frankly, I am not one that favors waxes as they are volitile and will disappear in a few weeks ... at best. Most leave a waxy residue, and a white powdery residue as well. They can't be used on rubber, glass, plastics, decals, yada, yada. And, they don't last but a short while.

I favor polymer type products..... such as Zaino or The BOM. The BOM is EZr to apply on a more fequent basis and does not (according to the maker) require removal of the old wax first. They say that their product will remove the wax. I believe it does.

Zaino gives the more superior shine, but requires several steps to do so. And, has a long learning curve to become the professional applier. And, requires old wax removal. Zaino also does not work well in high humidiy or in cold.... or in sun. Touchy product, but excellent finish and once applied, it is EZ to maintain.

My vote would be The BOM (Badtothebom.com..... no relationship with the product disclaimer). It's really EZ to apply.... and builds a great shine over several uses. Check out their website.... Zaino as well..... good stuff.

Oh, yeah.... The BOM can be used on most everything..... chrome, paint, rubber, vinyl, plastics, all sorts of stuff without any problems. AND... no white residue ever! I love it.

And, clay bars can tricky if one has never used them. The STI has crap for clear anyways.... so, I'd be careful. If you use it ... use lots of lub (water, soapy water, etc.) and very light pressure. Run your 'free hand' over the surface as you clay... feel for any residue. Once smooth, stop... Other wise you will not be happy with your paint. It can be ruined.

If you have a black car and detail it every week and wax it every 2, then those marks you see might be in the paint, like swirl marks. The bad thing with black is not so much keeping it clean, it's how easily scratches and swirls show. The more you wash and wax it the worse it can look. Which is why I will never own another daily driven black vehicle. BTW, what kind of wax have you been using? All the years I have been waxing and detailing and I have never had a problem with "wax build up".

I would wash with Dawn, clay it and then wax it with a good synthetic like Klasse or Zaino. Just make sure you get some protection on right away since dawn and clay will remove everything.

Then I would not use a harsh dishwashing detergent
