Default How long do I have to wait until I can wax?

I've heard that you have to wait 6 months to wax a new car to let the paint dry properly. is this true? I got my car at the end of May plus the 8-12 weeks it took to ship it over here.

assuming you posted this recently.... the 05's as i understand have been shipped a while ago... even if it was shipped recently it had plenty of time to cure, lets say you go to a body shop and repaint your hood - the minimum is about 30days but you should wait more like 2 or 3 months... you are fine to wax your car dont worry it has cured

try onegrand blitz wax (its a very good natural wax that lasts about 3 or 4 months) or try an even better looking natural wax that lasts about 2months max- P21S concours look wax... trust me get a good quality wax, dont go to walmart! those can be found where i shop all the time: www.carcareonline.com (and no im not affiliated, i just like the place a lot)

good luck

i just got my car june 18th and went to the auto shop and the guy told me the same thing "wait 6months"
So i e-mailed SOA there response-------------
Dear Mike S:

"
I have previously inquired with our Technical Services Department
regarding the waxing of a new Subaru. They advised that you do not need to
wait to wax it. As with any waxing or cleaning product, Subaru of
America always recommends that owners test the product in an inconspicuous
location on the vehicle prior to applying it to the entire vehicle.

For further recommendations from Subaru with regards to waxing your WRX
STi Sedan, please refer to page 10-3 in your owner's manual.

Best wishes,

John J. Mergen

YOUR ORIGINAL MAIL:

I just bought a 2005 sti brand new on the 18th of june. Right now it
has 400 miles on it. Today i went into my local auto shop and asked
about wax. They told me i should wait at least 8 months to a year to let
the paint cure.
They recommended a shinner solution from mothers products to spray on
rub off. What ya think? Can i wax or is there a way to find out when my
car was painted??? i know that probably won't happen but anything about
the wax issue would be great.

Dealer already waxed it for you when you bought it, right? So your already screwed if it didn't cure long enough.

You only need to wait to wax if there's fresh new paint on it...e.g., you just got it repainted. Otherwise you ought to wax it right away.

Your car wasn't detailed when you bought it?
