Default Proper care for fresh paint...

Well tomorrow is the day, I am finally picking up my car after two weeks being in the body shop. To make a long story short some b*tch wasn't paying attention and made a lane change...what she didn't realize is that I was right next to her. $3000 in damage (two new doors on the passenger side, ground effect, and the rear quarter panel trim piece.) Worst part was she didn't even have a drivers license.

Anyways, when all is said and done the whole passenger side of my car had to be painted...to blend of course. My question is this...the rep at the body shop says to wait 90 days before waxing/polishing the car. 90 days!...I knew you had to wait a little bit but I thought 90 days was a bit extreme. What am I suppose to do just wax one side of my car and leave the other unprotected? Since I use Zaino I decided to give them a call and ask for thier advice. He said using their products shouldnt harm anything because they are about as non abbrassive as they come. What do you guys think?

Its not all about being non abraisive. Its allowing the clear coat to harden and letting the chemicals and gases come out of the paint. By putting wax or zaino on you sealing that stuff in which may inhibt the curing of the clear coat. I'm pretty sure thats why they make you wait. Just keep the bird sh!t of and you should be fine.

STi-lysh is correct. You should listen to the body shop. You dont want to ruin such a beautiful car with spots in the paint and then have no warranty with the body shop because you didn't listen to them. I wouldn't wax any of the car for 90 days.

Listen to everyone, including the folks at the body shop. Don't wax for 90 days!! It really does take a while for the paint to cure. It's not going to hurt anything to have the clearcoat exposed to the elements for three months.

Sounds like a plan thanks guys. I guess ill just put a good coat on the front bumper and hood to protect from rock chips. Other than that ill keep it wax free.

Just leave it alone, man!! 3 months isn't that long to go without waxing or putting some other product on your car. Try to keep your car parked indoors. Everything will be okay.

I would just leave it alone but I have heard you can use polishes and the quick detailing products on new paint. Don't quote me on that though and if it was me, I would just leave it alone.

I should have been more specific when I said polish cause some polishes are kind of harsh, almost like a cleaner, and you should definitely not use something like that on new paint.

Check out this stuff...

Good idea to wait. The body shop knows best.
