hey slowride, dont want to sound to "stupid" but what do you mean by "dawn" wash? And to everyone else, since we are talking about the best waxs and methods of application, what is the best Car Wash... It is the first step after all....I have been using Turtle Wax Car Wash, as it is about the best thing i know of. If there is better Please teach me. lol

I did run across Meguiars NXT car wash, How is that?

Dawn liquid dish detergent. It's potent stuff.

I usually use Meguiar's Soft Wash Gel, but I think any reputable brand of car wash should be OK. Just don't use dishwashing liquid unless you want to strip whatever wax remains. And use enough that the solution feels slippery--you need the lubricity of the soap to minimize scratching. I also use a separate bucket of rinse water to clean the wash mitt before it goes back in the car wash bucket.

I haven't used the NXT wash, but from the description it sounds like it's got silicone oils, so I wouldn't use it to prep for Rejex--you should be using something like Dawn for that anyway.

Took some pictures...

BTW, even though I've basically got brake-dust colored wheels, I went ahead and Rejexed them. Also did the interior with 303 protectant, and the windshield with Aquapel, but those are other threads.

Default RE: My new Hankook W300 Ice Bear tires courtesy of Nissan

regarding a GB on RejeX,
my company is the factory-authorized distributor of RejeX to the automotive market. i sell RejeX for only $16.09 plus $2 shipping to any address. this offer is available to the members and vistors of car forums that i sponsor. however, the forum discount purchase link was given in one of the posts above so here it is again...

http://www.x-autoproducts.com/pages/forumpurchase.htm

this page is not available via my regular website. you have to have this url in order to get the forum deal (so be sure to bookmark this page so you can get to it again).

fwiw, i've been emailing and pm'ing JJ to find out what i have to do to become a sponsor here (no reply yet). i've been receiving a lot of purchase orders from people from this site. some have used the special forum discount page above, others have not. if you've bought from me (X-Auto Products), and didn't use the forum discount page, please email me at barry.moore@x-autoproducts.com and i will credit your card for the difference. i feel that is the fair thing to do, and i look forward to becoming a site sponsor. please feel free to use this purchase page and even pass it along to your friends.

if you'd like to know more about the product (virtually all the information given in this thread is 100% accurate as i've done all this same research myself), please contact me at the email given above and i'll answer any specific questions you have. or you can call me at 800-559-1192 and we can talk in person.

so, sorry for the shameless plug (i hope to be a sponsor soon). but in the meantime, please use the forum discount link above to get RejeX for $18.09 delivered to your door.

thanks,
barry

OK, I am sucker for the latest "wax" so I will order some up and give it a try. I would like to see how it compares to Klasse and Zaino that I have used in the past.

BTW, I am not sure if JJ is bothering to sign up new vendors until the new forum software we will be switching too is in place.

Out of curiosity, how would the application process go for a brand new car that hasn't had a coat of wax applied yet? It should be a matter of days before I get my new car
... thinking this may be my first 'mod'

Could I just apply this stuff as-is, no wax?

BTW, that MR looks beautiful

I first tried Rejex on my black STi three weeks ago. It's fantastic! Not only is the shine great, but it seems to be more durable than any other polish/wax/paint treatment I've tried. I've only used water for washing the car, since all the dirt, bugs, etc. wash off easily. I also used it on the wheels, and it's made removing the usual brake dust a lot easier.

Today I gave it a second application and the shine's deeper than after the first application.

The only thing that anybody that uses Rejex should keep in mind is that it isn't a polish or wax in the usual sense, meaning that your paint already needs to be in good shape before using it. It's a clear coat of sorts, which creates a great shine.

I don't care how good the wax is, you should still use soap to wash your car especially with black paint. Soap not only helps to clean it but also provides more lubrication than just water alone to help prevent scratches when you wipe the dirt off.

With all this silicone wax talk, I went to my storage to find the wax that I use to see if it is silicone based. Not to my surprise, it wasn't.

Griotsgarage.com's "Best of Show Wax" is probably the best wax available. The customers of Griots Garage range mostly from Classic Wooden Boat owners to vintage Ferrari's, this company is the real deal.

The wax is synthetic based non-silicone. Whatever the heck thats means, but I can assure you the paint SHINES on my Scooby with this wax, their polishes are amazing as well. Real quality products.

Being silicone-based isn't bad. Silicones have lots of properties that make them ideal for auto care products.

regarding silicone in car care products...

silicone oil is a cheap way to make car paint very shiny. it's also very slippery. the problem is it is capable of being absorbed into car paint. this happens over a period of time, and over multiple applications. ultimately, it can get absorbed all the way down through the paint to the body panel.

the problem is that it is very difficult to get rid of it in case you need to repaint. the new paint won't stick, causing fish-eyes and other problems for the painter. i've seen comments that the paint shop can add anti-fish eye additives (i'm not a painter, but i seriously doubt that this is possible). the only way to paint over something that's silicone-contaminated is to strip away all the contaminated paint. that means sanding down to the body panel. this makes the repaint a much more involved (and expensive) job. for this reason, a lot of people won't use a product that contains silicone oil (free silicone).

as for RejeX, it does not contain silicone oil. it has a proprietary silioxane which does not absorb into paint. it attaches itself physically to the surface of the paint.

i hope this information is useful.
thanks,
barry
