I'd buy some more, even though i kinda have plently. I just did a friend's 2003 dinan M5. it's only got 7k miles on it and the rejex stuff actually made it look better when i applied it over some 3M polish.

Why does Rejex need to be applied over anything but bare clearcoat? If it's as long-lasting as they say, any wax/polish layer underneath is only going to hurt its longevity.

You might put it over something other than clearcoat because not all clearcoats are created equal. If you have a brand new car that just came out of the protective cover than it might be fine but as soon as you drive it off the lot the pollutants are just waiting to get you. Evil little pollutants. A layer of was (or 3 for maximum affect) give you a better shine for those clear coats that don't shine like BMWs.

slo, you are correct... partly.

I contacted both 3M and the rejex people saything exactly what you just told me. I found that what initially thought only applies to compunds and polishes that HAVE silicone oil in them Unfortunately, most waxes/polishes do.

But, that's where the geniuses at 3M come in. They offer a line of polishes and compound that are silicone free. As such, they will NOT hurt the integrity of the bond b/t rejex and your beloved MR. Thus, making it the perfect solution to those who love rejex AND want to apply a polish.

But even if you apply a non-silicone wax under the Rejex, that wax is going to deteriorate before the Rejex. That's what the first message from the Rejex guy you posted says.

Default RE: sti in the showroom?

ok, so after some thought about what Slo reitterated (sp?), i email'd the rejex tech and was told that there will be some "lessening" of he bond. For example, rather than apply rejex twice a year, you would be looking at once or twice more with the non-silicone based polish (noy wax). With a silicone based polish, it's hard to tell.

Brett

THanks for pushing the issue Slo, i needed that crystal clear.

Perhaps ask Rejex for a complimentary bottle for one (or a few) of us to try out to see if it passes the grade? If it does, they could be assured that more than a few people here would jump on that and buy it don't you think?

Default CO parting out my stage 4 sti

Does your Rejex contact have any advice on de-siliconing a finish before application? Will the usual Dawn wash be sufficient on a month-old wax job?

So, this stuff costs 2x what a bottle of Meguiars yellow wax costs and you still need to apply it 2 times a year? No thanks. I'll stick with Meguiars showroom glaze and their yellow wax to keep my cars looking pretty. I've been using their products for 14 years now. I see no reason to switch.

Default RE: 425 hp magazine article

The more I look into this, the more confused I get.

The Rejex tech says Rejex is incompatible with finish products containing silicone oil. Silicone oil is nothing more than liquid silicone. Silicone is a polymer composed of silicon/oxygen chains. Longer chains result in higher viscosity, just like with hydrocarbon polymers. So silicone oils are short-chain silicones. The proper name for silicone is polysiloxane. I happened to be reading the MSDS (material safety data sheet) for Rejex--it's on their web site--and I see that Rejex contains...siloxanes. Hmm.

Now, I can believe that the silicones in Rejex are incompatible with the silicones in some other finish products, because there's more to a silicone than the Si-O chains--different silicones can have different ions attached to the silicon atoms. But I don't see where they get off dissing competitors for including silicones when they include them, too. And the whole thing about silicones making cars hard to repaint is FUD. This is a known problem and is easily dealt with by an anti-fisheye paint additive.

BTW, e-tackle.com has Rejex for $12/bottle + shipping.

I'm planning to do my car this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

As promised, here's my Rejex experience so far.

Decided to give the car the usual Dawn wash since that's enough to strip wax, and I wasn't about to fool with a silicone stripping solvent after finding out that Rejex contains silicone. After that, I dried the car using a water blade and towel.

The Rejex directions say to use a cloth for application. I used a piece of 100% cotton terry towel. Next time I'll either dampen it first or use a regular foam wax applicator, dampened. The Rejex goes on in a very thin layer that's hard to see until it dries to a haze--which it does quite quickly. With the dry towel applicator there were times when a dry part of the applicator removed the hazed Rejex as I was applying it. That got better as the applicator got saturated with Rejex.

I used a 100% cotton towel for removal. The instructions say it's effortless--it's not. But it is very easy--about like Meguiars NXT. The results, so far, are impressive. The finish feels very slick and is very shiny--I'd honestly describe it as "liquid", something I've never been tempted to do with other waxes and polishes.

Only time will tell if it really lasts 6-8 months and keeps bugs from sticking, but so far I see little downside. It costs a little more than NXT, and requires ordering online, but it looks great and is about as easy to use as NXT.
