Default How to get rid of scratch/fatigue? marks on the headlight

Hey guys,

My passengerside healight has a scratch that actually turned out to be some kind of plastic fatigue mark... It is about 4 inches across, 1/4 inch thick and it is very annoying at certain angles when looking from less than 5 ft.

At first I thought it was some type of scratch so I tried everything I could get my hands on - Bluemagic, Megilar and I've also tried that NOVUS 3-step and Plexus plastic cleaner. Last two especially did a great job but I can still see it.

I was trying to feel the scratch but I can feel absolutely nothing - it is actually more smoother than the OEM finish now thanks to those chemicals.

Now my question is...how would I get rid of this? It doesn't get in the way of funtionality at all, but it is just very annoying. I was thinking about playing with some headlight armor type flims to mask it. If I can't get rid of it, then I want to hide it somehow.

Either that or is it possible to just get headlight lense?

Any ideas?

I mean..I would try that but I can't feel the scratch at all it is very smooth where the scratch/fatigue mark is. So what you are saying is that even if I can't tell by moving my fingers on it I still need to do more?

I know scratch removal process on headlamps does take a while but does it really make that much difference?

I think I've spent at least 2 hours on this... is that minute amount for this type of process?

Just spoke with my tint guy the other day, and here's what he says: Sand the whole surface of the headlight with sand paper - start with like 1000 grit (go light) and go finer all the way to like 6000 grid. Then buff/polish with the standard wax polisher.

I'm gonna give it a try with mine one of these days. Want them nice and shiney!

CORRECTION - Grit values: Start with 1000 and go up, not 100. Lapsus linguae. Or lapsus typae rather....

Do you have a Porter-Cable or orbital buffer?

100 grit?!!?!! Maybe start with 1000 or finer.... then finish with a good plastic polish. I would try the polish first, and use wetsanding as a final option.

This stuff comes with 3000 grit sand paper, which is icing on the cake [IMO].
Quixx for glass and for paint are 2 dif products. You can find both at poor boys or any of those types of stores.
Also,Rite aid has become a sole drugstore distributer ,as well as k-mart dept stores etc...It is made in germany,Its like $15 bones.A good number of research articles are avail. on line w/a search.

All of a sudden i has attachment loading troubles ,I do apologize.

google search; ''quixx for glass ''

I will take a photo of what I am talking about... I'm really starting to suspect this is something that can't be buffed out..
