Default question about sealants

So I have quiet a bit of swirling on the hood and roof of my obp car. I don't have the time/money to invest in removing them. I was going to wash my car with ONR but wanted to wax it right after. I was thinking of instead, buying some sealant and then adding a layer of wax on top.

Is it a bad idea to use sealant if my paint is not totally prepped (as in clayed and polished)? I just want the protection to last until I can get a proper detail treatment done to it.

Thanks!

I Would wash it REAL good, and apply a sealant. How long do you plan on waiting? It really isn't to hard to clay, wax, and polish..

Well I normally wash/clay/wax but my current garage doesn't have a hose. That is the reason I am actually using ONR. I have all my materials, I just didn't know if adding a sealant now would be worth it, when I would need some paint correction in a few months, vs just applying the nxt 2.0 wax I have.

Some sealants like Zaino can enhance the appearance if swirl marks on your car also if the surface is not clayed smooth it wont bond as it should and give you the crystal clear look you want. I would suggest a very light glaze instead which acts more like a sealant w/ fillers. Chemical Guys makes something called EZ creme glaze and it works well to hind minor imperfections if you cant correct those swirls. Do not top a glaze with a sealant because it will not bond to the paint properly, instead you can top it with a wax.

Thanks Smoke! I think I will just try that. I just want the protection to last as the last time I zainoed the car it beaded water for about 5 months. I just wish the color popped in the sun light, like it does indoors or on a cloudy day.

Zaino is a great product but the sealants lack a depth and glow, often when I use Zaino I top it with a carnauba wax to give it a deeper look. I recently switched to Gloss It and use their Gloss Finish sealant and found it adds more to the finish than Zaino, depth and wetness without using a nuba on top, plus the application is much simpler! But like I said if you have swirls I would go with CG EZ creme glaze and top it with a nuba. What color is the car btw?

If the paint hasn't been clayed in a while, I wouldn't bother throwing sealants on it. It just won't look and FEEL right.

A good clay kit is $50, I recommend the Wolfgang combo.

For removing swirls, you'll need a polisher.

I think nxt 2.0 is a liquid wax. I wouldn't top a glaze with anything liquid. A carnauba paste is what you want. Lusso Oro is a good bang for the buck, Ive used it with great results. Phil carries it over at DetailersDomain.

Your process should looks something like this if your not doing machine polishing:

Wash/dry
Clay using a slick lube (Megs last touch 1:1 is perfect)
Re-wash and dry
Apply CG EZ creme and let cure (15mins)
buff off
Apply 2 thin coats of a carnauba paste

I will say this once more and then shut up:

For swirls, if you're not using machine polishing, don't bother...........it's a waste of time.
