Angry Water spots

I have friggin water spots on my windshield that I cannot get rid of. I've tried almost everything. I keep being told that the only true way to remove them is buffing. That true? I found this stuff on the net called Spot-x. They say its guaranteed to remove the spots completely. Anyone ever used this stuff? I'm always open for new ideas.

things to try:

-Newspaper and vinegar
-#00000 steel wool with some sort of lubricant (id probably use quick detailer)
- rubbing compound/swirl remover by hand
- compound/SR with a buffer

On that note - why does it seem that using newspaper with window cleaner seem to be the best at cleaning windows? I've never understood why newspaper but it is great...

IIRC the newspaper ink is slightly abrasive and therefore will clean a bit better than just normal paper... i use a MF window cloth when i clean my windows

After washing car, follow up with Mr. Clean Auto Dry kit. I only use it for final rinse. Uses twin charcoal filter element to remove water impurities and hardness. I swear by it. Can get a discount on the Mr. Clean auto dry website. Also, try to wash car in shade or dusk/dawn. Any good glass cleaner will remove the spots, auto dry kit to keep them from happening after next wash.

that Mr clean thing never worked for me. i always had to dry the car off.

washing in the shade is a good tip.

and glass cleaners will not remove the spots if they are etched into the glass.

edit: the DE/PA border isnt far from here at all.. where are you?

The Mr. Clean System works great for me and the water is very hard here. However, I do have spots on the windows that don't come off....I suspect they are etched in...very stubborn. Vinegar an paper towels won't remove them. Perhaps I'll try the newspaper or next time I claybar.

if your car is like mine was when i got it, its past the newspaper's ability to remove. get yourself some steel wool #00000 or try some rubbing compound...

Clay or use an intensive polish that you would use on paint, Menzerna SIP maybe if you have some. Also Chemical Guys waterspot remover works well.

I've found that Mr. Clean Auto Dry Detergent cleans so well that it strips off wax. I only use it before I wax the car to clean the paint after clay barring.

Glass Polish
Nice find... I'm going to give this stuff a try. Hell I have some pumice foot rub (I swear its not mine - an ex girlfriend left it here) and could even try that

I noticed just after this thread started that while I was taking off a parking pass sticker off my back window that there are embedded water spots everywhere except underneath where the sticker was. So over the last year or so my windows have taken a beating. I tried vinegar and rubbing alcohol with newspaper. Glass cleaner with newspaper. I tried hard water/soap scum bathroom cleaner. Nothing.... So I'm going to buy this glass paste and give it a go.
