Pressure washer is a good thing to have. I have an electric Karcher from Lowes. Others have a Husky from Home Depot. 1500-1800 psi is decent. Hold the nozzle at least 8 inches back from the surface you are spraying.

This is covered in 1 of the stickies, but p21S is best (expensive).

Eagle One "aluminum wheel" cleaner (there are other types sold by Eagle One) is the second best choice or more easy to obtain from Walmart, auto store, etc...

The real key is to stay on top of it and wax the "clean" wheels to make the grit easier to remove the next time.

Also, remove your wheel from the car for the ultimate clean. A lot of the worst grime gets down behind the lug nuts. You can't clean the inside well without taking off the wheel either. Also, need to take them off to clean the Brembos (wet rag is all thats needed).

Be sure to dry the BBS's when you have washed them. Water (rain in particular) collects brake dust more quickly.

If you have stubborn brake dust, you can try a rotary cleaner like Sonic Scrubber (new at Walmart) or a Mother's Ball, but these might remove the clear coat and damage the paint.

The best thing is a long soft bristle brush with a handle. The long bristles reach deep down. Second to that is a small sponge that can reach inside the crevices. I don't like the brushes that use pipe cleaners.

p21s gel formula works well... but ive found that (of course) it doesnt get everything, you may need to bust out the clay and see if that helps or even some compound...

I haven't tried the clay or compound yet, but some of the old brakedust looks to be cooked into the clear coat pretty good.

I'm going to try a new product I saw at Walmart called the "Sonic Scrubber". It is a small handheld battery scrubber. It has an optional accessory soft brush tip. I'm going to try this with Eagle 1 Aluminum cleaner on a spot or 2.

I use this:

Otto's BMW near West Chester Pa sells it for $40.00. I spray the wheels down, then immediately go around with the hose and they look brand new. No scrubbing. I have been using this since late 2003 and it is unbelievable.
My brother bought some old winter wheels for his BMW and they were caked with years of BMW brake dust. This stuff got them brand new looking again.

This is true. I always soak the surrounding areas of the car as well as the wheels to dilute it more.

What is "Meg's". Mcguire's?

I thought Meguiars wasn't PH neutral, though.

Eagle One and P21S are the only brands I know that carry a PH Neutral cleaning solution.

The strong acidity or basic properties are what make the cleaner I posted so effective. You just have to take the proper precautions while using it; ie saturate the car and wheels fully with water, spray wheels with cleaner, immediately wash off;; including surrounding areas around wheels.
