Default Foam gun worth it?

Im really into detailing my car often and have recently been considering buying a foam gun. I really just want to know if the gun is worth the 60 bucks or not. Also does it require a pressure washer? Does it use up alot of soap?

thanks

I want to hear from someone that has bought one, not someone who wants to sell me one.

i just ordered one. i'll post up when i get a chance to use it. some require the use of a pressure washer, some don't. i bought one that just uses the garden hose. it's a foamaster by gilmour. got it for $40 shipped from amazon.

Haha. I know that and DetailersDomain is extremely honest. I asked which products would benefit my situation the best and they recommended the less expensive products b/c that is what would work best. I do understand your point though.

I bought one a few weeks ago and I have been using it ever since. I detail cars on the side for extra cash and the foam gun cuts a good chunk of time out of my normal wash routine. It has taken me 3 or 4 washes to get it down to where I wasn't using as much soap but it's not hard to figure out. I would recommend buying the kit that Phil has made up with the firehose nozzle, quick disconnects, and shutoff valve makes it easy to swap between soaping and rinsing. It also keeps you from having to use another bucket with clean soapy water. Now, I just use a bucket to clean the grime and old soap off of my Schmitt. It is in an investment but I have had no problem making the money back very quickly with anything I've bought from DD.

the most popular foam gun is the Gilmour... its a solid product, tends to go thru soap fairly quickly but does a great job.

Personally i use one that i meant for the pressure washer and i think it does a much better job. It has thicker foam that clings to the paint a lot longer.

I use 2 settings really. I mix a 1:5 ratio of soap to water in the quart canister and when I am presoaking the car, I use it on the heaviest setting, E, so the foam sticks to the car a lot better, and when I am washing, I use the B setting so it is still nice and foamy but much more conservative on the soap. I also squirt a quarter-sized amount of car wash on my Schmitt before I start washing. I got 2 cars out of 1 quart the other day using it this way.

NP, it's worked pretty well for me so far, but I am sure that I'll refine it as I go along too.

If you use medium density settings all the time you will probably only get 1 car out of a quart canister of soap/water mix, maybe a little more.

Which one do you have for the pressure washer, and what kind of pressure washer? Gas or electric, i have been looking at going down the gas pressure washer route
