Default Help: Mequire's Quick Detail Spray Just Left Smears!

For the 2.5 years I've had my STI, it had never been waxed until about a week ago. I decided to keep up the look with some Meguire's Quick Detail Spray. I sprayed some on and tried to wipe it off in accordance with the directions. However, all it did was smear around and haze. I doubt this is what it's supposed to do, so I'm wondering where I went wrong, aside from waiting this long to wax it :-)

it should not do that at all.
did you use a microfiber cloth to apply it, then use a fresh clean and dry microfiber cloth to buff it to a shine ?

i used the quick detailer as a lubricant for the meguiars clay bar. and it doesn't leave any haze or residue at all.

If you're talking about their Ultimate Quick Detailer it's definitely not normal. A few tips for application:

-shake the bottle before you begin
-use a clean, dry microfiber
-apply in the shade if possible when the car surface is cool
-wipe on with one side of the cloth, then turn it over and use the dry side to wipe it off

It was not in sunlight, plus I'm as far northwest as you can get in the lower 48, so direct sunlight is still about 45 degrees. The car was very recently waxed when I did this. Perhaps I wasn't applying enough pressure? I wonder if there's a video out there of someone applying it properly...

Did the product freeze or get stupid hot? It may have messed with the chemical makeup but thats just an off thought. Normally the bottle says not to let it get so cold or so hot or that you're only to apply it in a certain temp range. Just something to consider maybe.

I use this all the time and have never had an issue. It states on the bottle that if it becomes harder to remove it is time for more wax. You may have not applied enough pressure when initially wiping it off... I shake the bottle and spray only an area large enough to easily work with. Wipe it completely off using a Microfiber towel. Finally, using another clean and dry microfiber polishing towel wipe until you are satisfied. Sometimes you will miss a spot or two and notice a haze a few hours later...simply wipe it off using the polishing towel.

I had a similar experience with their aerosol can of detailing spray. Got it on clearance at Autozone (should have been skeptical.) That stuff sucked! I wax (with a random-orbit buffer) at least once per month, in my garage, out of direct sunlight. That detailer's spray did the same thing to me as it did to you... I used microfiber cloths to apply and remove, inside, etc. Ended up having to wash it all over again to remove the haze & streaks. *shrug* I'm out less than $3 for two cans of that stuff, so I was more upset over lost time. Went back to using Mother's Detailer's Spray. Works much better for me...

I just got done using this product. I'd advise you of 2 things.

1. Make sure the car is cool to the touch (especially the hood if you just got done driving, I popped mine to help it cool off for a while). Do this in the shade (garage is best).

2. Use many terry cloths or equivalent. Fold the terry cloths twice into a rag size. Use 1 to wipe the product on. Use another to wipe it off. Also, flip the one you are using to wipe off for the final wipe (sometimes you have to apply a little pressure on the final dry wipe). Once the wipe off one gets too wet, youll need to grab another terry cloth. If you don't, youll just be spreading more haze. You will probably average 1 cloth per panel the size of your hood before it gets too wet. It usually evaporates on its on, though.
