Default Engine Detailing?

I looked in the FAQ section and the page isn't there anymore for a guide on detailing the engine. Is there a link someone has? Thanks!

A simple ,fast and good method is the way i do it

1.Let the engine run for a few minutes!( little warming up -> NOT hot)

2.Spray "Autoglym Engine cleaner" all over (don't know if you find a lot off autoglym in the states?) "All Purpose Cleaner" or "Safe D greaser" from Meguiar's does the job too.

3.Really dirty stuff-> use a brush.

4.Rinse with water, just out the hose. High pressure is also possible but be carefull with electrical components.

If neccesary repeat step 2,3,4.

5.Spray "Vinyl and rubber care" from autoglym all over the engine, not to little ,not to much...

6.Close your hood

Don't drive to far right after you did it,especially when your living in a "dusty" area!

7.Open your hood the day after and look

Sounds easy! I will have to look to see if I can find any of the mentioned products around town. If not there is always Amazon!

Just disconnect the battery, spray Simple Green everywhere, use a rag to wipe down and then rinse the hell out of it. Be careful on the intercooler fins though, too much water pressure could bend them.

The manual says not to spray any water in the engine bay. I don't understand the reasoning behind it though.

when i do engine bay's.. i let the car cool off for a while.. and then spray some P21S total auto wash in there... cut 4:1... scrub the stubborn/caked dirt and then rinse with a low pressure hose and let dry... use a towel to soak up excess water and wipe down parts that might spot up.

My take on the engine detail ...I know that everyone wants a clean/dressed up engine. Its really not hard at all, just 15-20 minutes and your engine can look like this.

Products used:
P21S Autowash
Boar's hair Brush
Adam's In and Out for the dressing
Detail Sponges for dressing application
Adam's VRT

Here's what I do:
1. Let the car run briefly so the engine becomes warm, NOT hot.
2. Turn the car off and cover all of the things in the engine bay that water could hurt. (e.g. put a bag over intake, alum. foil over alternator)
3. Rinse off the engine with a soft, wide spray.
4. Spray on engine degreaser of your choice (make sure it's water based, not oil)
5. Let it sit for a few minutes.
6. Scrub the stubborn and really dirty parts.
7. Rinse off, repeat above steps as necessary.
8. Take off bags/coverings and turn engine on briefly.
9. Turn engine off, and while it is still damp, spray on dressing of your choice (I use "Adam's In and Out").
10. Use a towel to spread it to the necessary areas.
11. Take a step back and enjoy your nice shiny engine .

This is just my method, others are different. I have just found this one to work the best for me.

Here is mine:

Peleg's Guide to Detailing

Where in the manual does it say you can't wash the engine?

You pretty much have to cover some sensors with aluminum foil and if you have an aftermarket intake, cover the filter with a big ziplock bag.
