IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | I noticed that my front wheel studs were corroding (galvanic) when I took the wheels off for cleaning. I must have not thoroughly dried my lug nuts before placing them back on. Is the corrosion normal? Does anyone have any good ideas for removing it? This ad is not endorsed by this member. | Tangent | Steel wool? Maybe use some anti-seize next time, that should keep some corrosion at bay. Just remember that this will alter your torque specs. |

| Tangent | Nope, you need something that will stick around. I assure you the auto store has anti-seize. You just gotta find it. Or order it online. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 Trader Rating: (9) | i wouldnt put anti seize on a lug nut or stud, the whole point of a lug nut is the hold the wheel on, u put anti seize on it and it could possibly back out, corrosion is normal, water hits hit, humidity in the air will corrode it. as long as you regularly rotate your tires, your lugs will never get stuck. only time ive seen lugs get rusted on were people who never rotated their tires. just take a metal wire brush and brush the studs out of rust. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Thankyou for the feedback. I have no trouble getting the lugnuts off now, so I'm going to go with the last suggestion of just brushing the studs. I've also never used a torque wrench when putting them back on. I turn until they are good n tight. |

Anti-seize is not bad to use on any part. Just remember that you now have to use less torque due to it being "wet" now. | |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 Trader Rating: (9) | anti seize isnt bad, i use it on alot of stuff but a lug nut? that isnt a hunch, talk to any of the 5 master techs at my dealer, none of them will ever put anti seize on a lugnut. anti seize can actually change torque numbers on lugs and studs. when they say torque to 30 ft lbs its a try value, as stated when you add a liquid it then changes the figures! if you do have rust, use a tap to fix the threads in a lug and a dye to clean the thread off along with some pb blaster and a wire brush! one tire rack itself Tire Tech Information - How to Install Your Wheel & Tire Package "Once you have completed your test fit, we suggest removing the wheel and applying a thin coating of "antiseize" around the axle hubs to help prevent rust and permit easier removal when it's time to rotate your tires. Do not apply "antiseize" to the lug hardware or studs." here is a article on tommorows technician. NO ANTI-SEIZE ON WHEEL STUDS OR LUG NUTS - Brake & Front End Blog |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | So far, I've opted to only used the wire brush. Most of the chalky white corrosion came off and I did not apply any form of cleaner. I'll update later when I check them again if the corrosion is still there with nothing more than a brush. |

| Tangent | I still don't think it is a problem, and the link that tells you not to only uses the change in torques as the reasoning. You just have to know what the wet torque numbers are when using a friction modifying substance. Quote:

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 Trader Rating: (9) | like i said, as long as your regularly rotating your tires, your lugs arent going to get stuck unless you park your car in a pool. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
