I also got Meguiar's for my first clay bar. Meguiar's kit from Walmart was $15 and comes with a bonus bottle of Cleaner Wax. I wasn't as big on the cleaner wax as it seemed somewhat abrasive, but it left a decent finish and helped fill in a couple scratches.

I was amazed at how much dirt accumulates behind the wing even after the wash. Dirty dirty dirty. Wow, what a difference a clay bar makes on the smoothness of the finish. I didn't have a problem working with the bar. I would just fold it in half and stretch it each time. The real key to clay barring is having dry towels. If you reuse the same one for too long, it becomes slightly damp and starts applying the detailer (smudging) instead of taking it off. I used Terry cloths and folded them over twice which gave me 8 clean surfaces to work with for each rag.

I also clayed the back area of my trunk when i first got my car, it was very apparent that is had never been done before, holy cow.
Has to throw away a portion of that clay bar, it just got too dirty.

is it necessary to wipe down whatever you just finish claying? because after i clayed down the car, which left a foggy finish, i went straight to waxing which cleared it right up. and i dont think its needed all the time really (depending on your driving conditions)..my first clay which was about 2 months or so ago I could tell made a big difference but this time there was very little....

The directions that came with your clay bar should tell you what to do. For Meguiar's clay bar, the lubricant was the Meguia's Quick Detail spray which instructs you to wipe dry and then turn the rag over for the final wipe. I noticed that the spray would evaporate on its on, though, if it had been wiped slightly.

If whatever you did worked, I don't see why you would do it any different.

right...i used the detail spray with the clay bar and did everything as the instructions have indicated, at least the very first time i did it. this time i just didn't bother to wipe it down with a cloth since i figured after applying the wax, i was going to be wiping/buffing away anyway...and yes the spray starts to evaporate itself and leaves a sort of foggy residue which is what would be wiped down
