Default what's the difference between porter cable and a regular polisher?

what's the difference? I keep hearing people say that polisher's are for professional and that it can burn your paint. What's so different about PC that a novice person can use? What are the chances that a person can use a regular polisher and burn the paint?

Porter Cable is just a brand... like Black & Decker. What you are referring to (or meant to) was the difference between a "Random Orbital Buffer", and a "Circular Buffer". A ROB moves kind of like how your hand would move if you were to plolish your car with small circles (like karate kid.. wax on.. wax off). A CB spins like a top which generates WAY WAY more heat.

What you want, is the random orbital buffer. REALLY hard to burn your paint with this guy. The Porter Cable 7424 is the one to get and unless you are dumber than a monkey, your paint will be fine. Here is the best resource on the net for info on the polishers, polishes, pads, and how-tos
