Default Communications problem with PLX M300 USB & Street TUNER

i have successfully installed the PLX M300 USB wireless on my car and my computer.

i am not sure if i have to adjust my COM port settings or not, but the AFRs on the PLX are not what ST's dashboard nor logging reads.

it seems like the ST is not getting the right information to the computer or that the computer is not reading the correct information from the PLX.

anyone have this problem before?

issue: PLX reads 15.70:1 at idle and ST displays 10.00 with a "flicker" reading of 15.12 once in a few samples.

any help would be appreciated!

Try this, the communication w/ ST has given me slight problems on other cars I have tuned with the PLX but this always fixes it. Open ST but do not connect to live tuning. Go to the options and configure the port with the PLX (with the usb connected to laptop) and click ok. Then exit out of ST and open it up again and check to make sure the port is still the same and correct. Then connect to live tuning and this should correct the problem. If not, then while in live tuning check the ports again to make sure they are still there and correct. Then disconnect from live tuning, check again, and then reconnect. At some point during this rutine it should connect correctly. The PLX seems to be the only device that I have encountered with this problem. Also that COM port must not be in use with any other device or program. If it is, then this type or error will also be caused in ST if the COM port is being shared with another program i.e. if I was using logworks and ST at the same time with the XD-1 than it would show 10 always in ST.

hey crystal, i had tried that a few times before posting this problem, but tried it exactly as you said. unfortunately, it still doesn't resolve the problem i am having.

it's a bit strange; i have the connector to the ODB2 connected to the computer as COM4 - which works perfectly - and i have the wireless USB antenna for the PLX M300 connected to the computer as COM5.

everything seems to be fine, and the computer is running great, and the car is happy, the PLX reads perfectly, but then inside of ST (once connected to "Live Tuning") the AFR is always "stuck" on 10.00 with a "ficker" of 15.12 every x number of samples.

strange.

in any case, i have registered on the PLX forum and posted my question/issue there in hopes that one of the engineers can tell me that i installed the drivers the wrong way, or need updated drivers, or just missed a step entirely.

i just want the thing to work! i will post here once i get an update from them.

thanks again.

Does the PLX communicate with the PLXLogger? If so, the problem is most likely the ST extension (maybe since its wireless, I have never seen a wireless one, probably new mayber?). Anyways try this first
http://www.plxdevices.com/AppNotes/PLXApp015.pdf

and make sure you have the newest dll extension from cobb at
http://www.cobbforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1
and followed the instructions on that pdf file as well. Hope one of these work.

Funny thing is that on the PLX pdf, you can see that it shows 10.2 as the dashboard afr, lol.

update: i haven't fooled with everything yet since my original post, but i called PLX and spoke with one of their engineers. what i did so far was test the PLX itself to make sure it is reading correctly using the PLX diagnostic specs and a voltmeter.

the PLX is working fine, may be over by 0.07 AF. no big deal, if the PLX reads 11.27:1 it really is a 11.20:1.

will update after i try communicating to the PLX Logger software.

thanks for your help thus far crystal!

Just wanted to add to this thread, I am having the same problem except. If I select the correct com port for the PLX (COM 7) as stated in the device manager, and then try to connect to live tuning, my ST just freezes, and crashes.

Ha..so mine just won't read at all.

I emailed Christian about it, and am waiting on word.

In some version ST will not pick up any COM ports larger than 4. Try going into the control panel, systems, and device manager and changing the port to one that is less than 4. If that doesn't work than I would start bugging Cobb.

update: there may be a problem with the PLX (in my case) and chances are it will be sent back for it to get looked at.

I am not butting heads, but this is not true. I use various versions of the StreetTUNER software and we do not have any issues with COM ports over the COM # 4. If you are having any communication issues, you are welcome to call our tech support team to get any communication issues worked out.

Take care,
Christian.

No problems with me, its just that I have heard some people having this problem but I believe it was mostly a problem with there USB driver's communications.
