Default KNOCK, KNOCK! Who's there? (No, really)

Just putting this out there because my (admittedly quick) search do not yield any info on this...

I'm running ST with my stock VF-39. After looking for what others are tuning regardless of EMS, I came across the UTEC Quick Guide 12_2004 and reached a somewhat alarming statement by PDXTuning:

"One of the very cool things the UTEC can do is detect knock verywell. The stock ECU also detects knock but stops listening for knock at around 5500 rpm. The UTEC while in control is always listening for knock and will retard the ignition if knock is detected. This is great as it gives you a reliable failsafe all the way to redline. Uncorrected knock will kill your car. If you get knock, let off, don’t try to drive though it. "

After going back and reading the ST manual and searching threads I did not find any data to support or bust this claim regarding the Denso deafining after 5500 rpm.

Now, I only got alarmed because I went back through all my logs from the last 15 maps I've run and not once did I see knock above 5000. This only lead me to think that this may actually be true.

I subscribe to the theory of peak boost already been reached and tapering by 5500, but I'd like to know if there are other dangerous conditions I may not be otherwaise aware of beyond this RPM range.

Honestly, I haven't contact Christian about this, but wanted to get a feel for this and see if anyone else had input. (?)

Huh? I think they are referring to the early (2002-3?) WRXs. Their knock sensor had some issues. The sensor in our car does a great job from what I've been reading.

The UTEC guide is wrong (with regard to the STI). Here are the stock knock parameter values for the '05 STI. The knock sensor is used up to 6850 rpms.

HAHA!!! You doods r nuts!

Good to know this info. The ST does not contain knock sensor threshold mapping (am I wrong?). But it's def a relief to know I should be good.. I guess since I had not seen knock register at the higher RPMs was the only part that kept me wondering.

Thanks to all for the quick response!!

I am. However, I am in need of the new StreetTUNER advanced and I have to make due with what I can until I have the functionality that I need. The DIY stuff has a couple nice features. However, they cannot touch the featureset and fuctionality of ST advanced. I totally give props to Cobb and the StreetTUNER software. It is an awesome tool.

Thanks Wolf. I was just curious because I am in the market for "Self-tune" software. I knew you were a big proponent of Cobb's StreetTUNER so to see you using Enginuity threw me for a loop.

naSTI-R sorry for my brief hijack.
