Default Question on Boost Targets and Wastegate Duty on initial tune of GT30R

Ok I have my injectors and intake pretty much scaled, needs a tad more work which I should get done tonight. So I am getting ready to move on to boost and just want to make sure my thinking is right.

I am running a Perrin GT30R rotated kit. It has a 44mm EWG that has a 1 bar spring. So for safety I was thinking of going into the Boost Targets Table and changing anything currently higher then 14.7 to 14.7. Then go into the WDC low and chaning all the values to 0 so that I am then running mechanical boost of 1 bar (14.7). I this would be the safest way to start. Does this sound right?

That sounds like it would take a while to work your way up. If you have an idea of the actual boost curve you want to run, I'd put that in for the targets (assuming you aren't going for some really aggressive boost on your initial tune). Make the high/low WDCs nice and low. Log a run (including the WDC values). Watch your boost gauge the entire time to make sure you are overshooting even with your very low WDC values. If you are undershooting as you should be, raise your high/low a bit taking into account how much you were undershooting, etc. Be conservative as you see fit. Log again. Work your way up.

I assume your goal is to run higher boost than wastegate. Just make sure your timing is very conservative while playing with the boost. You should be ok. Just take it all slowly, and log a lot. Pay attention to your dynamic advance. If you aren't getting the full amount in your logs, you might not be being conservative enough with your timing relative to your boost. Or you might be too lean. Or, well you get the idea.

Well I ended up just lowering the HWDC and LWDC values by 50%, and changed the boost targets above. It worked like I wanted it to. I needed to go WOT to get the last of my MAF voltages logged and did not want to over boost. Plus since it was the first time I had gone WOT since the install I wanted to take it easy incase a hose blew off the FMIC or what ever. It started out in the low to mid 13's and after bumping up the WDC's by 10% twice I got it up around 14.5.

Yeah I am in no hurry what so ever. Plan on eventually running 21-25lbs of boost but I have no problems if it takes me a while to get there. The object is to learn and have a safe tune so I will be taking it nice and slow and be a logging fool.

Good to hear.

BTW, I did blow off a FMIC hose on my first full boost run after installing it. Nearly gave me a heartattack.

Mine popped off the throttle body. I didn't have time to laugh as the car immediately hit a figurative brick wall. And of course it happened along a strip of road without street lights and I had forgot to pack a flashlight or toolkit that trip. Needless to say, my flashlight and toolkit are back in my car. I was able to get it seated well enough without the hose clamp to limp home. I'm just happy I learned that lesson in third gear instead of fifth.
